Epic Games Store Reveals New Free Game for October 23

This October 23rd, the Epic Games Store is giving away the horror game *Fear the Spotlight* for free. This breaks the recent trend of the store offering two free games each week, although there’s still a small chance of another surprise offer.

From October 9th to 16th, Epic Games offered the action platformer *Gravity Circuit* and a bundle for *Albion Online* as free games. Now, those have been replaced with two new freebies: *Amnesia: The Bunker* and *Samorost 3*.

The Epic Games Store is giving away a new free game on October 23rd: Fear the Spotlight. You’ll be able to claim it at 8am Pacific Time / 11am Eastern Time / 5pm Central European Time. This is also when the game will first appear on the Epic Games Store for PC. As always, you’ll have one week to add it to your library. Fear the Spotlight is becoming available just after its first anniversary!

What Is Fear the Spotlight?

In the retro-inspired survival horror game *Fear the Spotlight*, players take on the roles of teens Vivian and Amy who accidentally unleash something sinister during a school seance. Gameplay revolves around exploring, solving puzzles, and most importantly, avoiding the light. Released in 2024, the game has been well-received, earning an 80/100 average score and an 87% recommendation rate on OpenCritic, along with “Overwhelmingly Positive” reviews on Steam. Interestingly, many players and critics describe it as surprisingly “cozy”—more atmospheric and spooky than truly frightening—making it a great entry point for those new to the horror genre.

The Epic Games Store has been giving away two free games (or a game with extra content) every week for months. It looks like next week might be different, but they could still announce another free offer later this week. They don’t usually announce free games this way, but it has happened before.

Before the next free game event starts on October 23rd, Epic Games Store users can currently get both the newest Amnesia horror game and Samorost 3, a charming puzzle adventure where you play as a gnome with a magical flute. This is the first time Epic has offered either of these games as a free download.
