It comes as no surprise that the fanbase of Amazon’s “The Boys” franchise is eagerly anticipating updates on a specific project from its creator, Eric Kripke. As a shrewd veteran like Kripke, who previously worked on the hit show “Supernatural”, understands this excitement, and he has finally shared some long-awaited news with the fandom at large.
Since its premiere in July 2019, “The Boys” has undeniably emerged as Amazon Prime Video’s biggest triumph. The fifth and final season of this original series is scheduled for release in 2026. Characters from this franchise have been featured in popular video game series such as “Call of Duty” and “Mortal Kombat”. The franchise shows no signs of slowing down, with numerous expansions on the horizon.
The franchise’s first spinoff— “The Boys Presents: Diabolical” —debuted in 2022, another spinoff titled “The Boys: Mexico” has been announced, and a prequel series titled “Vought Rising” is currently being produced. The second and most successful spinoff series, “Gen V“, was renewed for a second season back in October 2023. However, there’s been little news about the project since then. This silence has now been broken.
Eric Kripke, the driving creative force behind “The Boys”, shared some exciting news with fans on X early Saturday morning. He revealed that the episodes for the second season of “Gen V” are now completed in the editing process. The creative team is currently focusing on adding music, sound effects, and visual effects. A trailer release along with a premiere date announcement is expected soon. Kripke hinted that the upcoming season might even surpass the first one, implying that it will be worth the wait.
Are You Ready To Go Back To School With The Boys And Gen V?
In the debut season, comprising eight episodes, of Gen V, viewers delved into the educational environment at Godolkin University’s Crimefighting School. The objective for its young adult students, aspiring superheroes, is to become part of the iconic Vought International team, The Seven. Much like its predecessor, The Boys, the series showcases eccentric superheroes such as Little Cricket, who can alter her size by vomiting or eating, and The Incredible Steve, a student capable of reattaching severed limbs.
In a more simplified manner, “The show, similar to its earlier version, effectively balances making fun of superhero movies with staying connected to them. The success of ‘The Boys’ universe lies in its creators’ ability to satirize superheroes and tell captivating, emotional tales simultaneously.
It’s a delicate balance, but both “The Boys” and “Gen V” handle it skillfully. If Eric Kripke isn’t teasing us, we won’t have to wait too long to revisit the thrilling world of Vought International again.
Both The Boys and Gen V are currently available to stream on Prime Video.
