Summary
- Jake Muller’s character arc could have been enhanced with his demise in Resident Evil 6.
- Mia Winters’ survival is unrealistic, hinting at a potential bigger role in the future.
- Helena Harper could have left a more memorable legacy through an ultimate sacrifice.
As a hardcore Resident Evil gamer, I’ve witnessed countless gruesome deaths across this enduring franchise. Yet, not every character I’ve encountered is destined to meet their maker at the jaws of a zombie or Tyrant. Somehow, through skill, luck, or perhaps some in-game glitch, certain characters who seemed ripe for the killing floor have miraculously survived their harrowing experiences and lived to tell the tale.
As a dedicated fan, I must admit that the unexpected demise of characters can add an electrifying twist to a storyline, fostering growth and maturity among the surviving cast as they grapple with the loss of a cherished companion. Capcom has shown time and again that they aren’t shy about ending beloved Resident Evil characters when it serves the narrative, but there are certain individuals who, in my opinion, should have met their end earlier in their respective games.
8. Jake Muller
Jake’s Character Arc Could Have Been Rounded Out If He Had Been Taken Down In Resident Evil 6
Jake Muller makes his debut in the Resident Evil series in Resident Evil 6. However, it’s evident that he already bears a significant burden when he encounters Sherry. As the son of Albert Wesker, Jake is fully cognizant of his father’s notorious reputation, yet he harbors a seething resentment towards the man who abandoned him and his mother without a second thought.
As a devotee, I’d rephrase it like this: Initially, I portray a ruthless and heartless mercenary named Jake, indifferent to those around me in the game. However, as the story unfolds, I gradually soften, learning about Sherry’s struggles with her father. This newfound understanding helps me embrace my true self, distancing myself from my father’s legacy. Given the possibility that Capcom might not revisit Jake in future installments, ending his journey with a powerful character arc, culminating in his demise, would have made his transformation all the more poignant and unforgettable.
7. Josh Stone
If Josh Fell In Battle, It Would Give Sheva A Perfect Reason To Keep Fighting
In Resident Evil 5, Josh may not be a main character, but he occasionally appears in the storyline. Interestingly, he served as Sheva’s mentor before the events of the game began. From her own account, Josh equipped Sheva with all the skills she possesses today, making him a figure she admires greatly and has looked up to since she joined the B.S.A.A.’s African branch.
Later, Josh temporarily reappears to rescue Chris and Sheva from a horde of motorbike-riding Majini, then assists them further by providing a small boat for their travel, ultimately leading them to Irving. Although they manage to survive, Josh’s demise could have served as a driving force for Sheva, significantly enhancing her character growth and determination in the storyline.
6. Mia Winters
It’s Surprising How Mia Has Managed To Survive This Long
In the thrilling world of Resident Evil 7, I, as a devoted fan, embark on a chilling journey to the Baker family’s eerie estate in search of my missing wife, Mia. It appears she’s been held captive by this twisted clan, guarding a mysterious girl named Eveline. After a harrowing fight for survival against Jack, Marguerite, and even Evelyn, I finally come face to face with Mia, only to have her whisked away from me once more shortly after our reunion.
Following the Baker incident, the enigmatic figure running the secretive village called Mother Miranda abducted Mia and pretended to be Ethan’s wife. This was a strategy to gain control over his daughter, Rose. It’s rather peculiar that Mia, with little or no combat training against mutants and B.O.W.s, managed to survive all these events. Her survival suggests that she might have a more significant part in the storyline ahead, but it’s intriguing to ponder why she didn’t meet her end at some point during her journey.
5. Helena Harper
She Can Seem Rather Forgettable, But She Could Have Gone Down As A Legend If She Had Made An Ultimate Sacrifice
- Resident Evil 6
In Resident Evil 6, each of the three primary storylines introduces an established character along with a newcomer to the series. For Leon, his partner is the special agent Helena Harper, who isn’t particularly well-known or iconic within the franchise. While she’s driven by her desire to rescue her sister from Simmons, her character doesn’t offer much depth for fans to connect with deeply. Giving her a heroic final act could have greatly enhanced her legacy in the series.
As we neared the climax of our campaign, I found myself taking up a supportive role, offering covering fire to keep Simmons at bay while Leon and Ada fought valiantly. In hindsight, if I had charged at Simmons, perhaps detonating an explosive or unleashing a hail of bullets, it might have jolted Leon out of his fixation on Ada, making him recognize once more that there are others who rely on him during tough times.
4. Billy Coen
Billy’s Death Would Have Made Sense In The Timeline While Also Setting Up An Interesting Fan Theory
It’s worth noting that the ending of Resident Evil 0 doesn’t clarify what happens to Rebecca’s companion Billy when he disappears in the last scenes, but a widely discussed speculation is that he met his demise at the hands of a horde of zombies. Given that Billy was making a beeline for the woods surrounding the Spencer Mansion, which by then were teeming with zombies and Cerberus dogs, this hypothesis ties up nicely with the events in the first game.
Simultaneously, it adds depth to the character of Rebecca by expanding on her development. Initially, she viewed Billy as nothing but a criminal due to her distrust, yet witnessing his selfless act of shielding her could potentially make Rebecca question her unquestioning obedience to orders. However, without any official confirmation from Capcom, it’s speculated that Billy is still alive and up to something somewhere.
3. Merchant
Many Fans Would Have Loved To Have Seen The Merchant Go Out In A Blaze Of Glory
The character portrayed as The Merchant in Resident Evil 4 stands out as one of the enigmatic figures within the RE series. This shadowy shopkeeper is frequently found providing Leon with essential weapons to aid him on his journey, yet beyond this, little else is disclosed about him. Intriguingly, numerous fans have speculated that he could be an infected Ganado, given his eyes glow unnaturally bright red upon reaching the island in the original game.
Towards the end of the game, the Merchant is often overlooked after Leon and Ashley leave, which seems quite unusual given his impressive arsenal. Instead, it might have been intriguing to see him put that firepower to use in a dramatic last stand against the dangerous hordes of Ganados. Not only would this action-packed scene add depth to his character, but it would also underscore his dedication to Leon, giving us a better understanding of who the Merchant really is.
2. Svetlana Belikova
Despite Her Unforgivable Crimes, Svetlana Is One Of The Few RE Villains Who Managed To Escape With Her Life Intact
In most instances of the Resident Evil series, whether in games or films, the villains tend to receive their due punishment, leading to particularly gratifying scenes when they are made to answer for their misdeeds. However, Svetlana, the main antagonist from the Damnation CG movie, managed to escape death by leaving her country at the exact moment that the United States and Russia were closing in on her location.
In the sequence of events, when Damnation arrives, bioweapons had been distributed amongst numerous terrorists and corrupt leaders worldwide. As the ruler of a nation, Svetlana chose to deploy these weapons during her country’s internal conflict. Though Leon and Ada ultimately unmasked Svetlana and her sinister ‘Bee Hive,’ her survival, despite the havoc she wreaked, underscores her incredible fortune. Regardless, this leaves room for this formidable antagonist to potentially reappear in future installments of the game series.
1. Barry Burton
This Is One Character Death That Would Be Hugely Emotional For Longtime Fans
In the initial Resident Evil video game, one unfortunate member of S.T.A.R.S., named Barry, finds himself ensnared within the zombie-ridden Spencer Mansion. It turns out later that Barry is hiding more information than he initially lets on. Prior to the game’s events, Wesker orchestrated the abduction of Barry’s family as a means to keep him silent about his true allegiances, which he had concealed from the rest of their team.
In the end, Barry, joined by Jill, Chris, and Rebecca, manage to escape the mansion using a helicopter. However, it seems more fitting for the legendary gun-wielder, Barry, to make one last heroic stand to protect his friends, instead of merely wounding Wesker’s shoulder. An alternative scenario might have been for Barry to meet his demise in Revelations 2, enhancing the emotional heart of the game, which is heavily influenced by Barry and his daughter Moira.
