Ever since its early access debut in January 2024, I’ve been hooked on Enshrouded. Over the past year, the game has undergone significant updates, all thanks to community input. We’ve seen new mechanics, enhanced combat, deeper dungeons, and so much more incorporated into the game. Looking at their 2025 Roadmap, it’s clear that they have even bigger plans.

However, there’s one feature I feel is missing – the ability to deposit backpack items into multiple chests without opening them individually. Terraria has had this feature for a while now, and I think Enshrouded could greatly benefit from adopting it too. It would make gameplay smoother and more efficient, which can only lead to a better gaming experience for all of us fans.

In games like Enshrouded that focus on survival crafting, the developers aim to create a captivating mix between monotony and enjoyment when it comes to item management. The joy of setting up an efficient base, categorizing items in specific chests, and having a well-structured system is undeniable. However, if this process becomes overly laborious, players might start feeling like they’re doing chores instead of playing a game, leading to disengagement. Conversely, making it too simple could make the gameplay loop feel insignificant and dull. To determine what elements are effective and which aren’t, one can look at past successes, and considering Terraria’s popular following in the survival gaming community, there is no better game to draw inspiration from.

How Enshrouded Can Implement Auto-Deposit The Same Way As Terraria

In the game Terraria, players can quickly transfer all unutilized inventory items to nearby chests that already hold similar items. For example, if there’s a chest filled with Ebonwood and your inventory has more Ebonwood, pressing this button will automatically move all Ebonwood to the same chest, adding it to the existing stack. This feature saves players from having to manually deposit and organize individual stacks of items into multiple chests. Once an item is put in a chest, that chest becomes the default location for future automatic deposits.

Enshrouded Already has the Ability to Automatically Drop-Off Items to Chests

At present, the feature in Enshrouded allows players to deposit identical items from their inventory into chests by pressing Shift + R when the chest’s inventory is open. To enhance this functionality, it would not be overly complex to allow players to deposit all items automatically without having to approach each chest individually. This could be done similarly to Terraria, where all items are deposited automatically. Since magic chests that can be accessed remotely already exist in the game, extending this function to the player’s backpack should not present too much of a challenge.

Affinity Tags or Strict Chests Would Make Quick Deposit Into Nearby Containers Simple

As a gamer, I’m always on the lookout for ways to make my gaming experience more organized and efficient. Currently, Enshrouded is planning to introduce a feature that lets players label individual chests, so we know where to store what items. Taking this concept a step further, I think it would be fantastic if they added an ‘Affinity’ tag system, similar to the one in Path of Exile 2‘s stash tabs. This feature would allow us to categorize chests based on material types. For instance, a chest with the ‘Equipment’ Affinity tag could automatically collect all unequipped armor, weapons, rings, and clothing when the auto-deposit button is pressed. This would save me a ton of time sorting through my inventory!

Automatic Depositing Could be a Universal Feature or Locked Behind Progression

Although making the automatic drop-off feature available across all gameplay might seem the most practical approach for players, it is essential to consider alternative methods of implementing this feature in the game “Enshrouded” that maintain the current gameplay balance and complexity.

Magic Chests

In the game “Enshrouded“, ordinary magic chests enable players to utilize their contents directly within workshops situated within a wide area surrounding their position. A superior variant of these magical chests, let’s call it the “Gargantuan Magic Chest,” in line with the current naming scheme, could incorporate automatic item distribution within its nearby vicinity as an added feature. This adjustment would maintain the game’s balance and motivate players to produce more advanced versions of chests to gain this quality-of-life improvement. The quest for Shroud Cores in “Enshrouded” to acquire these special chests would prove a valuable endeavor indeed.

Dedicated NPCs

As an enthusiast, I’ve been enjoying the variety of villager NPCs in Enshrouded, serving as both crafters and vendors. Introducing helpers who could assist with base management wouldn’t be asking too much. Perhaps there could be unique quests for specific NPCs scattered across the world that allow us to recruit them as logisticians within our bases. These recruits would then maintain the cleanliness of the base, and we could deposit all items into their inventories, which they would sort into designated chests. Whether it’s NPCs, chests, or another method, I truly hope that a quality-of-life improvement like this finds its way into Enshrouded in the not-too-distant future.
