The selection on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate has grown by adding Tales of Kenzera: Zau. This brings the total to 13 new games that have joined Microsoft’s subscription service in May 2025, and makes it the 57th game released on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate since the beginning of the year.
The first video game from Surgent Studios, a company established by British actor Abubakar Salim, who voiced Bayek in Assassin’s Creed Origins, is titled Tales of Kenzera: Zau. This metroidvania places players as Zau, a young shaman embarking on a quest to retrieve his late father’s spirit. Abubakar Salim has openly discussed the loss of his own father as the primary driving force behind the game’s storyline. Since its release in April 2024, Tales of Kenzera: Zau has garnered a 76 average score on OpenCritic, along with “Very Positive” user reviews on Steam and a 4.5-star rating from users on the Xbox Store.
The game developed by Surgent Studios, labeled as a Metroidvania, has been added to the Xbox Game Pass library on May 22. While it’s not a day-one release, due to being an Electronic Arts (EA) published title, it won’t be accessible through the standard Xbox Game Pass. Instead, it can only be found within the EA Play add-on, which is exclusively available with the PC and Ultimate tiers of Microsoft’s service. With an estimated playtime of around eight hours to complete, Tales of Kenzera: Zau offers a story-driven experience that might appeal to Game Pass members who prefer sampling numerous titles using their subscription.

Although the game “Tales of Kenzera: Zau” won’t be available on Xbox Game Pass Standard, it has added two other titles to its roster instead. These are Creatures of Ava, a vibrant open-world action adventure from Inverge Studios that was previously exclusive to the Ultimate tier since August 2024, and “STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl“, which has now joined the Standard library six months following its initial release.
Excitedly speaking as a passionate gamer, here are four exciting additions to my Xbox Game Pass Ultimate collection coming up this month! First, I can’t wait for the action-packed adventure of Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 on May 27. Then, two day-one releases await me: To A T and Spray Paint Simulator, hitting the screens on May 28 and 29 respectively. What makes the latter even more enticing is that it will introduce Metaphor: ReFantazio, the newest creation from the renowned JRPG studio Atlus! Can’t wait to dive in!
On May 31st, several games from Xbox Game Pass will no longer be available. Yet, the total number of games in their library will still increase this month, with 17 new additions compared to just 10 titles being removed. Moreover, the addition of 17 games in a single month will set a new record for Xbox Game Pass’s monthly releases in the year 2025.
