Summary

  • Lies of P will add new difficulty options and a boss rush mode in a free update launching alongside the Overture DLC.
  • Neowiz hopes to reach a wider audience by introducing more accessible difficulty settings.
  • The update moves away from the usual Soulslike formula to better suit different playstyles and skill levels.

As an eager fan, I’m thrilled to share that in a future update, yours truly – the developer Neowiz – is planning to introduce two challenging new difficulty levels and an exhilarating boss rush mode to the captivating world of Lies of P. This exciting expansion will coincide with the arrival of our upcoming prequel DLC, Overture, which is set to enhance the gaming experience even further.

The game titled “Lies of P” is a highly praised action role-playing adventure that transports players into a grim, Soulslike adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s Pinocchio within the city of Krat, inspired by the Belle Epoque era. In this game, players guide a puppet named P, created by Geppetto, who awakens amidst turmoil as puppets are attacking humans. The journey unfolds as players seek out Geppetto and uncover Krat’s hidden mysteries. True to its Soulslike heritage, “Lies of P” delivers a demanding yet fulfilling experience, placing players against powerful adversaries and testing encounters. After the game amassed over seven million players, its developer announced “Overture“: a prequel DLC that takes players back to the start of the Puppet Frenzy in Krat. Recently, Neowiz has shared some exciting details about what extra features will accompany the DLC release.

According to Video Games Chronicle’s report, game director Jiwon Choi unveiled information about “Lies of P: Overture”. This upcoming DLC won’t just offer a fresh narrative for players, it’ll also introduce a fast-paced mode called Battle Memories. In this mode, players can take on the challenge of all the bosses from both the main game and previous DLC. Furthermore, the launch of “Overture” will coincide with a free upgrade for the original game, which includes two new difficulty settings: Butterfly’s Guidance and Awakened Puppet. The current default difficulty (the one players have been playing) will now be known as “Legendary Stalker”.

Lies of P Will Introduce Two New Difficulty Options

Jiwon Choi noted in his comment that the studio aims to ensure a wider range of players can experience both the “Lies of P: Overture” DLC and the main game, regardless of their gaming abilities. This decision is not only based on player feedback but also the developers’ own insights. Choi stressed that these new difficulty settings will expand the game’s reach and accommodate various types of gamers.

With this decision, Neowiz is distancing itself from the traditional approach by FromSoftware concerning difficulty levels in video games. A significant factor that defines a game as “Soulslike” lies in its high level of difficulty and limited difficulty settings, which encourages players to devise different builds and strategies in order to overcome enemies. However, amidst ongoing discussions about the difficulty in Souls games, Neowiz has opted for a more inclusive approach by making the game easier for those unwilling to invest extensive time in defeating a single enemy.
