Summary

  • FBC: Firebreak shifts the focus from Jesse to the Firebreak, and could hint at major changes to the Oldest House.
  • Control 2 details could be teased through missions, including Jesse’s involvement, and how the Hiss adapted.
  • There’s potential for conflict with The Board, and even Alan Wake making a cameo.

Within a few weeks, you’ll find yourself stepping into the Oldest House once more with Firebreak: Firebreak Chronicles. However, this time around, it won’t be Jesse’s boots you’re wearing. Since 2019’s Control, roles have reversed, and players will now inhabit the everyday personas of ordinary humans, known as the Firebreak. It’s been quite a while since the original game’s events, and the Hiss infestation remains unchecked. To make matters worse, the Altered Items are on the loose, with Sticky Notes being a recurring motif in the pre-release trailers that the developers have shared. These items could hold crucial hints not only for Firebreak: Firebreak Chronicles but also for what might transpire in Control 2.

There’s already some information available about Control 2. In the year 2024, when Alan Wake 2: The Lake House expansion was launched, players encountered a significant Easter Egg that allowed them to interact with Jesse’s brother, Dylan, for the first time in five years at the Oldest House. Following a vivid hallucination, it became evident that things at the base were not stable and likely wouldn’t improve soon. This wasn’t the only instance where Remedy Entertainment shared hints about Control 2; they also released concept art depicting an outdoor street with the House’s door open, and nearby individuals affected by the Hiss floating ominously. Given Remedy’s penchant for hinting at their projects, there might be several details in the future suggesting the arrival of Control 2.

FBC: Firebreak Will Likely Confirm Some Key Details of Control 2

Six years on since the events of Control, I can’t help but feel that Firebreak Chronicles will likely fuel much fan excitement and perhaps even spark fresh theories. The world built in Control is nothing short of masterfully woven, leaving numerous Motel doors ajar for the series to explore next. The lockdown at The Oldest House remains intact, and Firebreak seems to suggest that this enigmatic place has undergone significant transformations over time. This could pave the way for Control 2’s Oldest House, offering tantalizing glimpses into how this extraordinary place might reopen once more.

FBC: Firebreak Could Show What Control’s Major Characters Are Up To

A good number of the principal actors from the game “Control” have kept a low profile since the release of its AWE DLC, with Jesse’s appearance in “FBC: Firebreak” generating significant debate. Given that she is the Bureau Director and has both the power and duty to combat the Hiss, it is reasonable to assume she will be involved, possibly revealing how she has adapted to her role and whether it has changed her character.

Besides Jesse, it’s clear that Dylan from The Lake House appears to be dealing with lingering mental issues. His interactions with the Bureau may keep him in a state of confusion, which could serve as a means for Remedy to continue weaving intricate hints about future events or fan theories. Characters like Arish, Emily, and Dr Underhill, who managed to survive the initial game, might have been affected by the House’s siege. As some of the more stable staff members, they could be assigning tasks to the Firebreak, such as overseeing missions to eradicate mold. The unresolved question is Dr Darling, last seen with Thomas Zane in Alan Wake 2; whatever role he plays next, it’s certain to stir up trouble, so let’s hope Remedy includes some Dr Darling video clues along the way.

It Could Hint at How the Hiss Survived Control’s Ending

Initially, Jesse appeared to eliminate the source of noise from the Slide Projector. However, six years on, the noise persists unabated. It’s understood that the corruption spreads through sound, and each new individual affected can amplify the sound further. This suggests that these resonant aliens might not require a source to continue their existence, but it also seems plausible that something more complex is at play. The game FBC: Firebreak may allow players to combat this ongoing noise, but it’s unclear how they’ll understand the Hiss’s potential adaptation until Control 2.

The Board’s Involvement With the Bureau Is in Question

In Jesse’s recent interactions with The Board at the Foundation, things didn’t go too well. She managed to find an ally among the exiled members, a man known as Former. The connection between The Board and The Oldest House was quite exploitative, and Jesse, being always cautious, openly defied them when she felt certain. However, The Board won’t just sit back and let this go unchallenged; they might be interfering in Jesse’s Bureau matters for the first time. This could lead to assignments from Firebreak, where The Board may make things tricky unless they are appeased. This situation suggests a possible shift towards a more adversarial and independent role for The Board in Control 2.

Whether The Board still features on the FBC badge might indicate its involvement.

FBC: Firebreak Could Deepen Remedy’s Connected Universe in Preparation for Control 2

In a surprising twist of events, Alan Wake often finds himself appearing in unanticipated locations. With the skills to weave himself into others’ narratives, Alan has recently taken control of his fate following the Final Draft of Alan Wake 2, expelling the Dark Presence from within by ensnaring it in a spiral. Now, with greater autonomy, Alan might have more opportunities to offer assistance, even if it’s indirectly. However, a manuscript written by Alan does hint at his involvement in Trench’s corruption. Yet, considering the insights gained from Alan Wake 2, it seems improbable that Alan unintentionally influenced Trench into allowing the Hiss in.

Instead, Alan Wake might function as a puppeteer, establishing storylines in his writing studio that are planted within FBC: Firebreak, but don’t blossom until Control 2 or even Alan Wake 3. The potency of a compelling narrative can alter the course of events in Remedy’s interconnected universe, and it would be captivating to witness Alan learning to intentionally wield this power, for good, during the occurrences of Firebreak, and ideally, Alan and Jesse will cross paths again.
