Summary

  • Magellan defeated 3 future Emperors in combat, showcasing his strength.
  • Fans are divided on Magellan’s power, some view him as weak, others as top-tier.
  • Despite his feats, Magellan is underrated and deserves more screen time.

In the captivating universe of One Piece, it’s common for fans to have their favorite powerful characters, and there’s usually a consensus on who they believe are the strongest in the series. Among the Emperors, Admirals, and other high-ranking figures, there’s a substantial faction of supporters who vigorously argue for their chosen character when their strength is questioned. Whether fans argue that the Admirals are overlooked or think the Emperors don’t get enough recognition, most strong characters have a large fanbase ready to defend them.

In the captivating world of “One Piece,” there’s a character who, despite their impressive feats and widespread admiration, often gets overlooked. This extraordinary individual managed to defeat no less than three future Emperors in combat, placing them among the most formidable characters within “One Piece.” Magellan, the former Warden of Impel Down, is one such character who deserves more credit. Although his prowess may appear diminished when compared to contemporary characters due to the evolving scale of “One Piece,” it’s important to remember that at a pivotal point in the series, Magellan was one of the most terrifying characters gracing its pages.

Magellan Acted As The Primary Antagonist Of Impel Down

He Almost Felt Like An Unstoppable Force Throughout The Arc

In the Impel Down Arc of “One Piece,” as Luffy strove to rescue Ace from imprisonment, readers were introduced to Magellan, the prison’s warden. At first glance, it might have seemed that Luffy, being the central character of “One Piece,” would overcome Magellan to save his brother. However, fans soon discovered that Magellan earned his position for a good reason. Armed with the powers of the Venom-Venom Fruit, Magellan demonstrated an overwhelming strength that left Luffy powerless and resulted in his defeat during this arc. This battle brought Luffy closer to death than he had ever been in the series before.

This is your sentence… intruder. – Magellan

Yet, his spree doesn’t stop there. In this same storyline, Magellan managed to overpower the future Emperor Blackbeard and his entire pre-time skip team single-handedly, thanks to his exceptionally potent Devil Fruit ability. To add to that, although it may not seem impressive, Magellan was victorious against pre-time skip Buggy as well. By vanquishing these three characters, Magellan has technically defeated three future series’ Emperors, though two of them had yet to undergo significant power boosts at the time.

Magellan’s Strength Is Often Debated By Fans

It Is Undeniable That He Took Down Three Future Emperors

  • Magellan Is Heavily Debated In Terms Of Strength
  • Some Feel He May Be One Of The Strongest In The Navy

Despite being considered a challenging accomplishment, many members of the One Piece community find Magellan’s strength less impressive. In fact, numerous fans view Magellan as relatively weak and overly dependent on his potent Devil Fruit power. Consequently, they believe that he managed to achieve his feats primarily by catching Luffy in a disadvantageous position and launching a surprise attack against Blackbeard and his crew, rather than displaying exceptional physical combat skills.

As a diehard fan, I can’t help but feel an intense admiration for Magellan, the formidable Warden of Impel Down. His towering presence and unquestionable authority have led many fellow fans to speculate that he’s edging closer to the elite fighters in our beloved series. Some even argue that, outside of the Hero of the Navy, Garp, Magellan might just be the strongest non-Admiral Marine character in the storyline.

While we’ve had plenty of time to get to know him, Magellan’s narrative within Impel Down underscores his immense strength. He was one of Luffy’s toughest pre-time skip foes that I had the pleasure of witnessing.

Magellan Could Use More Screen Time In The Future

After This Fans Could More Accurately See His Power

Regardless of opinions about Magellan’s might, there’s no denying that, given his past accomplishments such as engaging and defeating three future rulers, and serving as the Warden of Impel Down, Magellan seems to get insufficient attention on screen. Since his storyline, he has primarily appeared in a supporting role with limited screen time. This leaves many fans frustrated because they were anticipating witnessing the full spectrum of his power when facing stronger opponents in the New World.

Hell’s Judgement! – Magellan

At least, fans were treated to one exciting arc featuring one of Luffy’s deadliest enemies so far. Yet, similar to other characters in One Piece, such as Enel, fans yearn for more. Fervently hoping, by the conclusion of the series, Magellan will resurface in the main plot, leaving a minor yet significant mark on the Final Saga.
