Just ten days after its release on Steam, the top-down shooter Escape from Duckov is already proving popular with players. Although it shares similarities with Escape from Tarkov, this duck-themed game offers a lighter, more refreshing experience for fans of the extraction shooter genre.
The core idea of ‘extraction shooters’ – where you enter a location, collect valuable items, and try to escape safely – isn’t new. Games like Escape from Tarkov, Hunt: Showdown 1896, and the older Delta Force series have already proven popular within this genre. With Escape from Tarkov scheduled to launch on Steam in November, players are eager to find new games to enjoy in the meantime.
Escape from Duckov Passes 300,000 Concurrent Players
On October 26th, Escape from Duckov reached a peak of over 300,000 players. That’s a significant achievement, especially since it’s a single-player game, unlike many other popular extraction shooters which focus on player-versus-player combat. Like those other games, Escape from Duckov challenges you to find valuable items and make it out alive. This more laid-back take on the genre is clearly appealing to players. Surprisingly, Escape from Duckov has a larger player base than some free-to-play extraction games, such as Arena Breakout: Infinite, despite costing $15.83.
Escape from Duckov offers a unique take on the extraction shooter genre with its overhead perspective, setting it apart from most games that use a first-person view. While it includes the core features of an extraction shooter, the developers at Team Soda have added base-building and a campaign mode, creating over 50 hours of replayable content. Players will encounter dynamic changes with each playthrough, including shifting loot, varied enemies, and unpredictable weather.
While Escape from Duckov doesn’t currently offer multiplayer, it does allow players to create and install mods. Dedicated fans are already trying to add multiplayer and co-op features through modding. For those new to the ‘extraction shooter’ genre, the single-player mode is a good way to learn the ropes before jumping into games like Escape from Tarkov.
I’m so hyped for Escape from Tarkov to finally hit Steam on November 15th! It feels like this game could really become the extraction shooter everyone’s playing. It’s already blown up on Twitch – over 24,000 people were watching when I checked! What’s really cool is that it’s proving you don’t need a multiplayer game to build a huge community and get people excited.
