As a seasoned survivor of the Norvinsk region, I must say that the latest update for Escape From Tarkov has left me both exhilarated and slightly bewildered. The developers have truly outdone themselves with this one, adding so many new features that it’s like they read my mind!

This period is truly special: The popular game, Escape From Tarkov, undergoes a reset, or “wipe,” and with it comes patch 16.0.0, overflowing with fresh elements, content, and adjustments to keep the gaming experience engaging!

The snow has returned alongside two simultaneous occurrences: new firearms, an updated version of our classic custom map, and the debut of a completely new prestige system.

Escape From Tarkov 16.0.0 Patch Notes

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been eagerly waiting for the long-awaited update in Escape From Tarkov, version 16.0.0. The excitement lies in the shift to Unity 2022, a change that’s been delayed several times, but promises to bring a new level of immersion and visual fidelity to the game.

In keeping with the usual practice for Escape From Tarkov, the patch trailer unveils several (though certainly not all) fresh features, and this time it’s accompanied by a captivating post-punk soundtrack that some gamers hypothesise could be a new tune from Molchat Doma.

Finally, Unity 2022

As an ardent follower of BattleState Games, I’m excited about their plan to transition to Unity 2022 with patch 0.15.4.0. However, in the spirit of ensuring a smooth gaming experience for all of us, they’ve opted to hold off on the release for a bit more testing.

As the final days of 2024 approach, one major project from the year’s plan has been completed. As of now, Escape From Tarkov is using Unity version 2022.3.43f1.

Another Audio Overhaul (Meta XR 69.0.0)

In the game Escape From Tarkov, the audio system could use some improvement, and this latest update is aimed at addressing that issue by incorporating the Meta XR Audio version 69.0.0.

This update takes away the option for binaural audio and introduces a fresh reverb system using physics-based echo effects, along with overall enhancements to the way audio responds dynamically.

Better AI Combat

The introduction of PvE mode earlier this year brought a lot of attention to AI limitations.

According to player input, Scavs, Bosses, and AI PMCs will now engage in suppression fire, perform tactical flanking moves, and exhibit varying levels of aggression.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that the enemies are now packing some serious heat – the GP-25 and M203 under-barrel grenade launchers! It might be a good idea to keep a protective shield or defensive strategy up my sleeve, just in case things get explosive.

New Guns

A new round in the game “Escape From Tarkov” isn’t complete without introducing fresh firearms and accessories to make players scurry back to their safe houses.

  • Sako TRG M10 .338 Lapua Magnum bolt action rifle
  • Aklys Defense Velociraptor .300 Blackout integrally-suppressed assault rifle
  • Saiga-12K with selective fire
  • FN SCAR-H with X17 lower receiver
  • V40 mini-grenade
  • Akula dagger

3D models for fan favorites such as the SIG MPX, PP-19-01, and Saiga-9 have been updated, along with improvements in their interchangeable components.

The Prestige

Investing countless hours into the game “Escape From Tarkov” just got more exciting, thanks to the addition of the Prestige system in the Player versus Player (PvP) mode by BSG. This means not only a new level of style, but also additional rewards for your gaming efforts!

Achieving prestigious status demands reaching level 55, finishing certain missions, honing specific skills, and controlling unique areas within your hideout, as well as possessing rare items.

As I ascend to the prestigious tier, my player profile undergoes a refresh, yet I retain some of my hard-earned gear and abilities. At first, there are only two tiers of prestige on offer, but the developers plan to expand these levels in upcoming updates.

Distinct perks come with elevated status, featuring a unique emblem, wristbands, identification tags, expanded possibilities for personalizing your hideout, and an added daily and weekly mission opportunity.

Khorovod Event

In a unique tribute to an ancient East Slavic dance rooted in pagan beliefs, we’ll introduce a new game mode featuring distinctive missions and eye-catching ornaments across the Shoreline, Lighthouse, Woods, Customs, Reserve, and Interchange maps.

Players secure access to other levels by safeguarding a generator for five minutes, following which they activate a festive decoration reminiscent of a Christmas tree.

BTR Driver Quest Line

In the restricted Norvinsk district, there’s a highly beloved (and singular) taxi driver who could use a few good deeds from level 20 onwards. You can lend a hand by completing the Mechanic mission titled “A Helping Hand”.

Hideout Customization & Hangouts

You can now make your hideout feel like home with new wall, floor, and ceiling customization options. These are unlocked through level progressions and tasks.

After nearly ten years, you now have the opportunity to explore your friends’ secret lair to witness their dwelling place. This visit will grant you access to their firing range and fitness center, enabling you to make progress while your speedier companion bears the brunt of the construction work.

Customs Remake

The Customs map has undergone an upgrade in terms of texture, lighting, and 3D design. Some structures have been completely swapped out for more recent versions.

In addition to the current attractions, there are fresh destinations of interest within the industrial area that were once off-limits, now open for exploration. Plus, you’ll find new escape points leading to the Shoreline map, and one of these includes a transportation route.

Winter Wonderland

Every winter, as per our annual custom, a heavy snowfall occurs. The sound of crunching snowflakes beneath your boots might be quite loud, yet the tranquility it brings is soothing.

Furthermore, prolonged exposure to snow can lead to frostbite, a condition that doesn’t inflict direct harm but instead diminishes your stamina levels and visibility.

You can remove it by seeking shelter, standing by a barrel fire, or drinking some alcohol. Bottoms up!

Visual Recoil Rework

A potentially controversial change in this wipe is the new visual recoil implementation.

Even though the outward appearance remains unchanged, this updated camera now exerts greater control during each shot, thereby increasing the challenge in aiming but providing a more authentic gaming experience.

This brings Escape From Tarkov closer in line with other modern tactical shooters like Squad.

Quality of Life Improvements

If there are sufficient resources left in your medical kit and you’ve got several injured areas on your body, you now have the option to repair everything simultaneously with a single click.

Now, while examining your inventory, you’ll find designated slots where you can place items with ease. This feature is particularly beneficial when reorganizing ammunition, allowing you to quickly transfer rounds directly to their corresponding boxes by simply clicking and holding Ctrl.

Secret Extracts

Maps currently feature concealed extraction points that can only be accessed by locating scattered loot during raids. The comprehensive list of these hidden exits will be disclosed shortly, offering a beneficial alternative when the standard extraction spots are congested, especially when you have an LEDX on hand.

No Flea Market For Two Weeks

Discussions about launching the Flea Market have been lively, and its project manager, Nikita Buyanov, expressed interest in trying out stricter restrictions on it.

In this round of reset, I’ll find myself temporarily locked out of the Flea Market for a fortnight on the calendar. This means I’ll need to keep the early-wipe excitement going, even if I manage to hit level 15 by day one, as I’ll have to wait before I can restock my gear!
