Escape from Tarkov has struggled with cheaters for a long time, and the game’s developer, Battlestate Games, says fighting them is a constant battle. It feels like every time they ban one cheater, two more appear – similar to the myth of the hydra, but these ‘monsters’ are actually players who are deliberately ruining the game for others.
A growing number of Escape from Tarkov players are asking the game’s developers, Battlestate Games, to add a system called PlaySafe ID. This would verify players’ identities, and it’s something the developers of the game SCUM recently implemented with positive results. The Tarkov community believes this change would improve the game experience.
Could PlaySafe ID Change the Game in Escape from Tarkov?
PlaySafe ID focuses on preventing cheating and keeping players safe. It aims to connect genuine players with each other through reliable matchmaking. While the technology is complex, it effectively fights cheating without interfering with gameplay.
A popular idea on the Tarkov community forum suggests Battlestate Games should fully implement the PlaySafe ID system to effectively combat cheaters.
As of today, the suggestion has received 153 votes, with 93% of voters supporting it. People commenting on the suggestion expressed enthusiasm for PlaySafe ID and believe partnering with Battlestate Games would significantly improve security.
The suggestion reads:
This isn’t about penalizing honest players; it’s about keeping them safe. A system like PlaySafe ID seems like the only way to reliably address the problem in the future.
Now that PlaySafeID has been successfully launched in SCUM, we’re starting serious discussions about adding it to Escape from Tarkov.
Let’s finally get rid of cheaters, that have plagued us since the alpha of this game
In June 2025, PlaySafe ID began exploring opportunities within the Escape from Tarkov community, expressing a desire to collaborate with the game’s creators to enhance the experience for players of the popular extraction shooter.
In August 2025, the company supported a study that found over 80% of online gamers had experienced cheating. Escape from Tarkov is well-known as one of the games most affected by this problem.
