Wow, it’s only been a day since Escape From Tarkov officially launched on Steam, and already the reviews are getting slammed! It’s kinda crazy, but from what I’m seeing, it doesn’t seem like people are actually upset with how the game plays. It’s something else causing all the negative reviews, not the game’s quality itself.
Players have eagerly anticipated the full release of Escape From Tarkov for years. Originally launched in early access in 2017, the game quickly became a defining example of the extraction shooter genre. However, for a long time it was only available through the Battlestate Games Launcher, which likely limited its reach to a broader audience.
Escape From Tarkov Debuts to ‘Mixed’ Steam Reviews
The full release of Escape From Tarkov on Steam has arrived, but the launch hasn’t gone smoothly. Players are voicing their disappointment through Steam reviews, resulting in a “Mixed” overall reception with only 43% of reviews being positive as of today. This is despite the 1.0 update bringing significant improvements and new features to the popular game.
Most negative reviews for Escape From Tarkov aren’t about the game itself, but rather the server issues players experienced at launch. Many couldn’t play or even create an account with Battlestate Games. The servers seem to be working much better now, so it’s likely the game’s Steam reviews will improve over time as people actually get to play.
Before the game launched on Steam, the director of Escape From Tarkov predicted it might receive a lot of negative reviews. This isn’t a huge shock to the developers, Battlestate Games, as they anticipated some issues. They had previously mentioned that players who already owned the game on other platforms would need to buy it again to play on Steam, and they were preparing for that potential backlash. However, the current server problems causing the negative reviews weren’t necessarily expected. Hopefully, Battlestate Games can fix these issues and improve the player experience, ultimately changing those Steam reviews for the better, but there’s still work to be done.
