Escape from Tarkov is Getting a New Matchmaking System

As a seasoned Escape from Tarkov player with countless hours under my belt, I can attest to the frustration of waiting for what feels like eternity in the matchmaking queue. The prospect of a revamped matchmaking system that promises shorter queues and fewer errors is nothing short of music to my ears. If only they could somehow speed up the real-life loading times, I’d be ready to jump straight into the action without a second thought!

Battlestate Games announced that they are currently testing a new matchmaking system as a significant enhancement for player experience in Escape from Tarkov (EFT) and EFT: Arena. These tests are being carried out on the ETS server, which is an early-access test area exclusively accessible to a select group of users.

It’s unclear when these changes will affect a larger group, but upon initial examination, they seem robust.

Much Needed Changes

Players globally have frequently found issues with the matchmaking system in Escape from Tarkov. For example, during the game’s periodic wipes, or global resets, wait times to join a match can balloon significantly, sometimes reaching up to ten, fifteen minutes, or even longer, before a raid begins.

Over time, numerous users have encountered unexpected disconnections and malfunctions during the process of finding matches. This year, one particular issue cropped up concerning ‘Scav raids’, where players faced infinite loading screens during the matching process.

In a post on social media, Battlestate Games revealed:

The primary objective of this newly developed system is to minimize search times for raids in Escape from Tarkov and Arena, improve matchmaking processes, and decrease instances of errors and disconnections while matching players.

Users are often troubled by more than just finding matches; they also worry about the lengthy time it takes for maps and loot pools to load, as well as connecting with other players before starting a raid. This issue has led many gamers to switch to Escape from Tarkov’s PvE environment, where entering a PvE raid can take only 20-30 seconds in total.
