As a huge fan, I can tell you Escape from Tarkov really set the standard for extraction shooters, and it’s been leading the way for about ten years now. It’s also notoriously difficult – seriously, it’s one of the toughest games out there! It’s been scaring off more casual players ever since it first came out in 2016, but that’s part of what makes it so rewarding when you finally succeed.

It’s surprisingly difficult to find out exactly how many people play Escape from Tarkov, even though it’s a popular game. In this guide, I’ll share the information I’ve gathered to estimate the most accurate player count possible.

Is Escape from Tarkov Popular?

It’s difficult to find accurate numbers for how many people are playing Escape from Tarkov. The game’s developer, Battlestate Games, doesn’t share player count information publicly.

In August 2025, the lead at Battlestate Games shared unusual information about how many people were playing Escape from Tarkov.

On a Saturday evening at around 9 PM (BST), 45,000 people were playing PvP in Escape from Tarkov.

So, when I check the player count for Escape from Tarkov, it’s only showing those playing on the Battlestate Games launcher right now – Steam’s coming later. But here’s the thing: that number *doesn’t* include people playing the PvE mode. They’ve said before that PvE and PvP players are pretty close in numbers, sometimes even half and half. So, if around 90,000 people were playing total, I figure about 45,000 of them were probably enjoying the PvE side of things.

That means that Escape from Tarkov had 90,000 concurrent players at a peak time on the weekend.

Simply put, Escape from Tarkov has a large and growing player base. This number increases significantly when special events happen or when the game resets (‘wipes’).

How to View Escape from Tarkov Player Count

When this was written, there wasn’t a way to accurately know how many people were playing Escape from Tarkov.

So, Escape from Tarkov is finally coming to Steam in 2025, which is awesome! What’s really cool is that because of how Steam works with its API, we’ll actually be able to see exactly how many people are playing Tarkov *just* on Steam. Right now, it’s hard to get a clear player count, but that’s all going to change!
