Now that Escape from Tarkov’s major 1.0 update is live, players are noticing some unexpected issues. Before the launch, the game introduced Black Division, a powerful new faction expected to guard Terminal, the game’s latest and most challenging map.
Recently, players have begun to find members of the Black Division and RUAF, a new faction, appearing on several maps, notably Factory. Currently, these encounters are limited to the PvE mode, leading many to speculate that Battlestate Games is using PvE as a testing ground before introducing them to player-versus-player combat.
Black Division is Roaming in Tarkov
Recent screenshots posted online by VeryBadSCAV show what appear to be Black Division soldiers appearing in areas beyond Terminal, a location that hasn’t been officially discovered by anyone playing Escape from Tarkov.

Players discovered Black Division fighters during a raid on the PvE game mode, leading many to believe Battlestate is testing how these fighters – and the newer RUAF faction – will function before releasing them into player-versus-player combat. Several players have also reported seeing large groups of RUAF fighters appearing on different maps.
VeryBadSCAV also claimed that Battlestate Games is planning to release Terminal, along with the upcoming Winter Update—which will add snow to Tarkov, like they’ve done in previous years—without much prior announcement.
The initial patch notes seemed insufficient considering the six-hour server downtime. I suspect this is a deliberate distraction, similar to how the Labyrinth update was a surprise. Many Escape from Tarkov players are unsure about the upcoming Terminal map and are confused by the current ‘soft lock’ issue. No one has yet been able to access Terminal, and those who’ve finished the latest storyline are stuck waiting for instructions on how to proceed, as the game is telling them to hold off until an escape route is revealed.
For now, Tarkov players will still encounter Black Division and RUAF forces appearing unpredictably on other maps.
