ESRB Leak Indicates Resident Evil 5 Remake May Be Revealed Soon

A recent rating from the ESRB suggests that Capcom is about to announce a remake of Resident Evil 5. The company has been successfully updating older Resident Evil games with remakes, and it looks like Resident Evil 5 could be next.

Fans of Resident Evil have a lot to look forward to! The new game, Resident Evil Requiem, is coming out in February 2026 and will feature both the returning hero Leon S. Kennedy and a new character, Grace Ashcroft. The game will take place in the destroyed city of Raccoon City. Beyond this, rumors have been circulating about remakes of older titles. While some believe Resident Evil Code: Veronica will be next, others think Resident Evil 5 might be remade first. A recent leak could provide some clues as to which game Capcom will tackle next.

Resident Evil 5 Remake Leaked by ESRB

A listing for Resident Evil 5 on Xbox Series X/S was recently found on the Entertainment Software Ratings Board. While the original game can be played on these consoles, it isn’t specifically made for them. The listing mostly details why the game received a Mature rating, but it also mentions in-game purchases. The original Resident Evil 5 did offer downloadable content for purchase, but the Gold Edition includes all of that content in the base game. Because other Resident Evil remakes have included similar small purchases, many believe this listing points to a complete remake of Resident Evil 5.

While rumors suggest Code Veronica is the next Resident Evil game to be remade, there’s growing evidence that Resident Evil 5 might be released first. Eva La Dare, the actress and motion capture performer for Sheva Alomar in Resident Evil 5, hinted on Twitter about an exciting announcement coming in March, using several Resident Evil hashtags, including ones specifically for RE 5 and the series’ 30th anniversary. It’s worth noting that Sheva hasn’t been featured in a game since Resident Evil 5. Interestingly, previous Resident Evil remakes haven’t brought back the original voice actors, so if Eva La Dare returns, it would be a first.

So far, information points to a remake of Resident Evil 5 being released on Xbox, but it will likely also come to PlayStation and PC. A PlayStation presentation is scheduled for February 12th, and a reveal could happen there. While a leak suggests a remake is in the works, it’s best to be cautious. Resident Evil 5 is a bit of a controversial title; many enjoyed the co-op gameplay, but the original game’s AI partner and its depiction of Africa and enemies received criticism. If a remake does happen, the developers will probably address these past issues. Given the game’s importance to the Resident Evil series, it’s unlikely to be released suddenly without prior announcement. Even if the remake is revealed at the upcoming presentation, it could still be some time before players can actually play it.
