Exploring the Genesis of Team-Up Limit Breaks in “Eternal Remnant: The First Chapter”
The creative minds at Arcfinder Studios have shed light on the motivations for the game’s collaborative Limit Break maneuvers. Drawing inspiration from timeless JRPGs such as “Final Fantasy” and “Lunar: Silver Star Story”, Eternal Remnant: The First Chapter weaves a narrative around two siblings embarking on a mystical odyssey deeply intertwined with their past. In the spirit of traditional JRPGs, these characters, along with their expanding roster of companions, will have to employ weapons, healing items, and even an enigmatic magical affliction to combat adversaries during their perilous journey.
Eternal Remnant: The Initial Installment” introduces yet another traditional feature of strategic JRPG battles – Limit Breaks. A hallmark in classic series like the Final Fantasy, Limit Breaks are extraordinary attacks that players can trigger once their characters sustain a specific level of damage (usually displayed as a bar filling with each enemy attack). What sets Eternal Remnant apart is its innovative twist on Limit Breaks: if two characters have their Limit gauge full, they can collaborate to deliver extra-powerful attacks or unique effects. Not long ago, Game Rant had the opportunity to interview Arcfinder Studios about these Limit Breaks in Eternal Remnant.
In a fresh take on traditional JRPG Limit Break systems, the combo Limit Break offers an engaging element in gameplay. As explained by Arcfinder, this system aims to capture the thrill of amplifying a character’s power, a common feature in other JRPGs like Octopath Traveler. The Limit Breaks in Eternal Remnant not only intensify battle dynamics but also provide players with strategic options. They can choose to deploy a character’s Limit Break as soon as the bar is filled or wait for another character to build up theirs, thereby enhancing damage output and granting special benefits.
Eternal Remnat’s Limit Break Combos Add Strategic Depth
As a dedicated cinephile of virtual battles, I’d like to share an intriguing dynamic: during my turn, I can aid fellow characters by contributing energy to their Limit Break meters. However, this act of generosity is limited; once my own bar runs out, I’m unable to help again for a while. A fully charged Limit meter empowers characters to attack or support faster, setting the stage perfectly for a spectacular party combo strike!
I aimed to capture the joy that arises from enhancing a character’s abilities (like Limit Breaks or using Boost Points in Octopath Traveler) and the fun of pairing these characters for combined attacks. Having both aspects functioning simultaneously could lead to numerous possibilities, which might complicate development significantly. To address this challenge, I thought that integrating the two elements into a single design would be feasible and effective.
In the present demo of the game titled “Eternal Remnant: The First Chapter,” characters Vera and Arin have the ability to unite their Limit Breaks for a powerful ranged attack, capable of swiftly clearing the battlefield. This feature is expected to expand further in the full game, offering players numerous opportunities to explore various strategies. For those eager to experience this distinctive system, the demo on Steam would provide an excellent preview.
