As a dedicated Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fan with years of experience under my belt, I must admit I was both excited and apprehensive about Marvel Studios’ latest offering, “Eternals.” With Chloé Zhao winning the Best Director Academy Award for her work on “Nomadland,” I had high hopes for this unique addition to the MCU. However, the mixed reviews and underperformance at the box office left me feeling a tad disappointed.

As a longtime Marvel fan with countless hours spent watching their movies and reading the comics, I can’t help but feel both excited and disappointed by the latest news from Marvel Studios. On one hand, Deadpool and Wolverine, two of my all-time favorite characters, are reportedly on their way to box office success. The thought of seeing these anti-heroes wreak hilarious havoc on the big screen once again fills me with joy.

The highly-awaited release of “Eternals” drew excitement due to director Chloé Zhao’s recent Academy Award win for “Nomadland.” Some critics applauded the movie for its boldness and unique take on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, reactions were divided at best. Financially, the film fell short with a global box office revenue of $402.1 million, versus a production budget of $236.2 million, leaving marketing expenses unaccounted for. As a result, fans ponder whether there will be a sequel to “Eternals,” given its unfinished storylines.

In an interview with Inverse, Marvel Studios head Feige shared that a sequel to “Eternals” isn’t on the horizon. However, he mentioned that the storyline of “Eternals” will be explored further in a future MCU film. Feige stated, “There are currently no plans for ‘Eternals 2.’ Some of its events, though, such as giant creatures emerging from the sea, will be touched upon in an upcoming MCU production.”

In his latest interview, Feige hinted at some exciting developments in “Captain America 4.” He mentioned the brief appearance of Tiamut Island in the trailer, which was formed when the Eternals thwarted a Celestial from rising from the earth. According to leaked plot rumors, this film will primarily focus on a dispute over the island’s valuable resources. However, that’s not the only intriguing storyline left hanging by “The Eternals.”

As a long-time fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I have grown accustomed to the thrilling cliffhangers that keep us guessing and coming back for more. The ending of “Eternals” left me absolutely stunned, with Sersi, Phastos, and Kingo being sucked into a singularity by Arishem, a Celestial who was displeased with their actions. I couldn’t believe it when Arishem decided to spare humanity, acknowledging that we are worthy of living and vowing to return for judgment.

As a long-time fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I’ve grown attached to various characters and their storylines over the years. The Eternals, with their rich history and complex dynamics, are no exception. Although it seems unlikely that there will be a sequel to their standalone film, I strongly believe that their storylines deserve resolution.

Eternals is available on Disney Plus.
