Summary
- Eustass Kid of the Worst Generation is overrated and nearly useless, with his biggest feat being beating Big Mom with Law’s help.
- After a failed attempt at Elbaf, Eustass Kid’s dream of becoming Pirate King is shattered by Red Hair Pirates led by Shanks.
- Despite a high bounty, Eustass Kid falls short of being Luffy’s rival due to lack of significant accomplishments in the New World.
Only a small number of pirate crews from “One Piece” reached the same level of influence as the notorious Worst Generation. These particular groups gained their reputation through their wicked deeds, making them feared by countless other pirates. It’s no wonder that several storylines in the series have featured members of this illustrious group.
Among the twelve characters, Eiichiro Oda frequently leans on a select few more than others, and Eustass Kid is one of those chosen few. Eustass Kid first appeared in the Sabaody Archipelago storyline, alongside other Supernovas. Shortly following his introduction, he was given the chance to display his talents, and it’s safe to say that he left readers quite impressed.
Initially, they had high hopes for him and anticipated remarkable feats. Yet, in no time, it turned out that Eustass Kid might not live up to the expectations of the fans. Instead, he began to be considered as more highly regarded than he actually deserved.
His Biggest Feat Was Relying On Trafalgar Law
Without Law, Victory Would Not Have Been Possible
- Law’s awakening changed the tide in their favor
- Big Mom should have won the fight
Eustass Kid has only a few notable achievements to his name, with most being relatively underwhelming. However, the most significant feat attributed to Kid is his victory over Big Mom, which was significantly assisted by Trafalgar Law. Readers of the manga are aware that it was actually Trafalgar Law who prevented Big Mom from commanding her subordinates and ultimately dealt the finishing blow. In a scenario where Trafalgar Law was absent, Eustass Kid would have likely failed to defeat Big Mom and might have even lost his life. Conversely, while Law also required assistance, he had a greater chance of defeating her compared to Kid.
During the raid at Wano, Eustass Kid made little impact beyond his involvement in opposing Big Mom. He didn’t manage to defeat any notable foe, and didn’t contribute significantly to the alliance’s triumph in any other manner. Leaving Wano with pride intact, Kid received a humbling lesson from one of the Yonko.
Being Humiliated In Elbaf By Shanks
His Journey Came To An End In Elbaf

Following their departure from Wano, Eustass Kid and his pirate crew steered towards Elbaf, the giant’s homeland. Kid was hopeful that he would uncover clues to find another Road Poneglyph or at least learn more about Laugh Tale’s whereabouts, but it seemed that destiny had different plans in store for him.
Upon approaching the shores of Elbaf, the Red-Haired Pirates became aware that he was there. Previously, the Kid Pirates had encountered the Red-Haired Pirates, an encounter that didn’t turn out favorably for the latter group.
You wanna go after the man marked by flames?— Eustass Kid
Ignoring Killer’s caution, Eustass Kid pursued his strategy against the Red Hair Pirates. He readied his weapon for a fatal strike, but Shanks sensed the threat and swiftly intervened to prevent him. Taken aback, Kid’s aspiration of claiming the title of Pirate King was shattered.
Additionally, to heap on the misfortune, Shanks confiscated all the Road Poneglyph rubbings that Kid had with him, and then commanded Dorry and Brogy to demolish the Supernova’s vessel. With the loss of these precious Poneglyphs and his own ship, Eustass Kid has been effectively eliminated from the competition for One Piece.
In The End, The Gap Was Too Big
Eustass Kid Tried To Stand Close To Luffy

Regardless of minimal notable accomplishments, Eustass Kid was awarded an identical bounty to Luffy and La, individuals who have demonstrated more remarkable feats. Furthermore, many fans speculated that Eustass Kid would become Luffy’s rival due to their shared aspirations.
Initially, Eustass Kid’s bounty fooled fans, as it surpassed Luffy’s. This made fans think that the red-haired Supernova could compete equally with the future Pirate King, Luffy. However, sadly, a true rivalry between them never unfolded because Luffy was significantly stronger than Kid.
It’s worth noting that Eustass Kid spent a considerable amount of time in the New World, yet his achievements were limited to obtaining a replica of a Road Poneglyph, which he managed to take from the weakest Sweet Commander. Additionally, Eustass Kid suffered a significant setback when he lost his left arm in a confrontation with Ben Beckman. This event has cast a shadow on his reputation. Despite these shortcomings, Eustass Kid is not a poorly written character overall; he just might not be as strong as some people perceive him to be.
