So, let’s journey back to where it all began, delving into the Alola region showcased in Pokémon Sun and Moon.
Each list of regional attack styles emphasizes their general toughness and adaptability. Additionally, it delves into the inventive and absurd nature of many regional variant forms.

18. Sandshrew

Among the initial Pokémon that captured my heart way back then was Sandshrew. With its endearing and quirky appearance, it possessed a level of ferocity that made its future evolution seem perfectly logical.
Initially, this Ground-type creature transformed into an Ice/Steel type, offering an interesting twist. However, it now becomes vulnerable to four times the usual damage when attacked by Fire or Fighting types, making Alolan Sandshrew seem rather delicate and susceptible.
On the plus side, it learns some nice attacks, including Slash, Gyro Ball, and Swords Dance.
17. Sandslash

Unlike regular Sandshrew, Alolan Sandslash boasts a unique and energetic aesthetic. Unlike its previous evolution method, it now transforms using an Ice Stone, similar to the versatile Eevee, everyone’s beloved shape-shifter.
What helps it survive against bad matchups is using its Snow Cloak ability to dodge attacks.
In addition to Earthquake, it is capable of utilizing moves such as Icicle Crash, Dig, and even Thief for powerful assaults.
A fun Pokémon, but there are plenty better on this list!
16. Exeggutor

As a gamer, let me tell you, transitioning from a Grass/Psychic setup to a Grass/Dragon type is quite the leap for Exeggutor, but hey, I’ve always found him to be adaptable and ready for any challenge that comes his way.
Fortunately, unlike our prior options, it lacks the double 4x vulnerabilities. However, it does possess five 2x weaknesses and one 4x.
Which means this long-necked fellow doesn’t dodge many attacks.
One positive aspect about Alolan Exeggutor is that it can master several beneficial moves. Among these, I particularly enjoy Solar Beam, Flamethrower, and the intriguing attack called Infestation.
15. Vulpix

Everybody loves Vulpix, right? The cute little fiery fox that eventually evolves into Nintetales.
But in Alola, nature went a different way and transformed the cutie into an Ice type.
Despite having four unfavorable matchups as an Ice-type Pokémon, Vulpix remains quite competent in battles.
By employing the Snow Cloak for evasion, Vulpix can counterattack with delightful moves such as Aurora Beam, Extrasensory, and Grudge. Admirable, but its potential truly shines when Vulpix undergoes evolution!
14. Ninetales

The Alolan Ninetales is an exceptionally lovely and potent Pokemon. What sets it apart is its unique ability to transform into a dual Ice-Fairy type.
Although it leaves the fox four times vulnerable, it compensates by boasting superior statistics and powerful attacks.
The latest update allows Ninetales to catch opponents off guard with moves such as Moonblast, while also employing deceptive tactics like Hypnosis.
To our great surprise, this icy fox can still use attacks like Heat Wave and Flare Blitz!
13. Geodude

In Alola, Geodude gets a magnetic makeover, going from a Rock to a Rock / Electric type.
Despite continuing to be vulnerable to ground assaults, his newly acquired skills such as Magnet Pull and Galvanize offer a chance for him to reverse the situation against his adversaries.
Even though Geodude is still relatively small, it packs quite a punch with its strong moves such as Thunder Punch, Rock Throw, and Magnitude.
12. Graveler

If you were hoping that Alolan Graveler might evolve differently, you’re out of luck.
Thankfully, the upgrade from the little pebble is still a pretty solid Pokémon.
Regardless of its sturdiness, it can endure a fair level of harm before responding or reacting.
A higher Attack stat significantly boosts the impact of abilities such as Rock Blast, Double Edge, and Bulldoze on your adversary’s creatures.
11. Golem

I admire the peculiar way evolution developed his hair to be magnetic, even though it seems illogical, it’s the kind of unconventional reasoning that I’ve grown fond of in this series.
With moves such as Charge Beam, Gyro Ball, Brutal Swing, and the reliable Explosion, Golem effectively reduces its adversaries to pulp.

To put it simply, most trainers won’t end up using Rattata in their ultimate squad, but that doesn’t diminish its value as a Pokemon.
In the region of Alola, his type transformed from the conventional Normal to a combination of Dark/Normal. Although this change brings additional vulnerabilities, it’s compensated by useful traits such as Gluttony and Hustle.

During his stay in Alola, he switched his type from traditional Normal to a mix of Dark and Normal. This adjustment introduced more susceptibilities, but it also provided him with skills like Gluttony and Hustle to counterbalance them.
As Rattata is most effective when it annoys and disrupts your adversary, you’re likely to prefer moves such as Hyper Fang, Super Fang, Toxic, and Attract for a more challenging gameplay experience.
9. Raticate

Despite Raticate’s plump cheeks not immediately striking fear into you, this cunning rodent can still spoil your plans easily.
If you encounter a Raticate with a lot of bulk, it can be particularly bothersome. However, it’s important to note that even without the extra thickness, Raticate can still prove to be quite a hassle.
As a dedicated Pokémon trainer, I can confidently say that for this particular Pokémon, you’d be aiming for top-tier stats to give it an edge in battles. Ideally, you’d want to boost its Defense and Special Defense to around 300 each, and its HP should exceed 300 as well, ensuring it can withstand some serious hits on the battlefield.
These moves, such as Iron Tail, Throat Slash, Rampage, and Phantom Paw, will ensure an exciting exchange in the fight.
8. Meowth

Indeed, being a cat enthusiast, my affection for Meowth has never waned. In fact, it’s grown even stronger, thanks to the Alolan region and its refreshing take on this feline Pokémon.
As a devoted fan, I’ve discovered that the latest Dark typings, coupled with skills such as Technician, breathe life into what were once forgettable attacks, making them much more impactful in battles!
This means you can go to town with attacks like Fury Swipes, Assurance, and Aerial Ace.
7. Persian

You don’t necessarily associate Meowth with being lovey-dovey.
It struck me as extremely amusing because an Alolan Persian is the form it takes when it feels particularly joyful.
Instead of being overly reminiscent of the original, this Persian character boasts balanced attributes, making them quite formidable on the gaming field.
Even though Persian is currently categorized as a Dark-type Pokémon, it doesn’t hurt to use moves such as Gunk Shot, Shock Wave, Parting Shot, or Last Resort to irritate your opponent.

6. Diglett

In terms of the funniest new regional versions, Diglett would certainly be among the top choices for the final spot.
As it stands, Diglett’s pretty strong in Alola, with a new Ground / Steel typing.
I particularly enjoy the Tangling Hair skill of that tiny creature; it’s a feature that momentarily staggers Pokémon during physical confrontations.
Combine that with moves like Facade, Attract, and Shadow Claw to capitalize on this stumpy Pokémon.
5. Grimer

In the classic games, Grimer was extremely powerful. However, in Alola, this oozing mass transforms into a significantly more menacing creature, becoming both a Poison and Dark type.
As a gamer, I can tell you that Grimer used to have a hidden trick up its sleeve – Poison Touch. However, in this new region, it’s no longer a special ability for Grimer; it’s just part of its standard repertoire, making it vulnerable only to Ground attacks.
Utilize your adversary’s sole vulnerability to inflict damage using moves such as Shadow Punch, Stone Edge, Gunk Shot, and Acid Armor.
Grimer is plenty amazing, but we’ll save the evolution for later on this list.
4. Raichu

As a gamer, let me tell you, the original Raichu never quite did it for me. However, when they introduced the Electric/Psychic regional variant in Alola, I found myself becoming a huge fan!
For one thing, the hybrid typing is somewhat rare. For another, Alolan Raichu is adorable.
What’s truly fascinating about the electric rat is its Surge Surfing skill, allowing it to move twice as fast in electric environments!
With those attacks such as Hyper Beam, Thunder, Focus Blast, and even Disarming Voice, Raichu can annihilate enemies.

Earlier, when I was waxing nostalgic about Diglett, this was why.
Dugtrio is so unbelievably silly in Alola that it makes Golem look normal.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say, Dugtrio doesn’t disappoint when it comes to the Tangle Hair move. But what truly sets it apart is its impressive Attack stat and other robust attributes.
Use those muscles to beat down opponents with Final Gambit, Thrash, Stone Edge, and Return.
2. Marowak

Among all the Alolan Pokemon, Marowak boasts one of the most striking regional transformations. Instead of being purely a Ground-type Pokemon, its form can evolve into either a Fire/Ghost type, significantly altering its gameplay style.
Hold on! It’s not just its moveset that’s impressive, but also its abilities. This guy’s got Cursed Body, Lightning Rod, and even Rock Head! Now, that’s a Pokémon you don’t want to mess with!
With that sort of framework, it’s pretty easy to make Marowak a force of nature.
You can deal significant damage to your opponents by employing moves such as Shadow Bone, Stomping Rampage, Fire Burst, and Stone Shatter.
You can easily overpower your adversaries with the use of abilities like Shadow Bone, Fury Kick, Inferno Flash, and Rock Smash.
Lastly:
With moves such as Shadow Bone, Earthquake Tantrum, Flame Burst, and Stone Break, you’ll have no problem defeating your enemies.
But as amazing as Marowak was, he couldn’t stand up to the final Pokémon on this list!

Even if you weren’t a fan of the original Muk, Alolan Muk is incredible.
Apart from boasting impressive figures across nearly every aspect, it also has just one minor flaw, making it extremely challenging to compete against.
Use that big Attack stat to unleash moves like Gunk Shot, Rock Tomb, Quash, and even Brick Break.
