As someone who has been a dedicated fan of the Tekken series since its early days, I must say that the roster for Tekken 8 seems to be missing some of my favorite characters. The absence of certain fighters feels like a piece of my childhood is being left behind in this new installment.
In terms of its cast, Tekken 8 boasts an impressive lineup from its launch and DLC expansions, featuring many long-standing characters from the series. Although it introduces new fighters as well as welcomes back veterans, there are several iconic figures who were once central to earlier games noticeably missing. As of now, whether these characters will make a comeback via DLC in Tekken 8 remains uncertain, leaving them as cherished remnants of the series’ history for the moment.
In every main Tekken game, the character replacing Jack-8 before him follows a traditional pattern of substitution, making Jack-8 essentially the same fighter across different titles. Similarly, Kuma, who follows in a similar role, has inherited the fighting style of his predecessor. However, there are some significant characters from the past that seem to be missing in Tekken 8, with the exception of those exclusively tied to the storyline.
Several Characters From the Original Tekken Have Been Left Behind
Remnants of Kazuya’s Generation
In the latest Tekken installment, T8, some iconic characters from the earliest days of the series are missing, although they made appearances as DLC in Tekken 7. While it makes sense that characters like Armor King, Anna, and Kunimitsu might be omitted for their modern counterparts, fighters such as Ganryu and Wang could offer unique gameplay experiences due to their distinctive styles. Initially, distinguishing P-Jack from his numbered versions can be perplexing, but this version of the character is a singular robot who continues to appear in each sequel rather than being replaced.

Mostly Underrated Tekken Fighters Who Haven’t Appeared in Years
Affirming the unique spirit of the franchise, T2 introduced the beloved element of animal boxers that the series is recognized for. Characters like Alex the raptor and Roger the kangaroo remain familiar faces even though they haven’t been seen since Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Angel carves out a distinctive niche, similar yet distinct from Angel Jin. Lei stands as the only character with a recent appearance due to his role in the last main game, while Baek and Bruce are strong candidates for DLC in Tekken 8, thanks to their growing popularity born of nostalgia.

Missing Fighters From Jin Kazama’s New Generation and Beyond
Several Post-Timeskip Characters Have Yet to Return
As a devoted fan, I can’t help but reflect on the groundbreaking leap that Tekken 3 took, propelling the series forward significantly. Now, with over two and a half decades under its belt, its cast is undeniably part of the game’s rich legacy. Unlike the mass-produced models like Gun Jack (number three), P-Jack has carved out his unique identity as an established character.
Prior to T5 ushering in a new epoch for the series, Tekken 4 served as a transitional phase that could be referred to as the last “classic” installment temporarily. Characters like Christie and Marduk brought fresh, elegant grace to Capoeira and a harder edge to the games respectively, making them iconic fighters of their time. Notably, most characters introduced later have been included in Tekken 8’s main roster. Thus, the absent characters from T4 remain as the last vestige of the franchise’s earlier days.
