In Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’ll find a wide array of heroes to connect with. Interestingly, some of the most notorious villains from the annals of Walt Disney Animation Studios make an appearance as well. These villains are included in both the base game and the expansion passes of Disney Dreamlight Valley, allowing players to tailor their character roster according to their preferences for an optimal gaming experience.
At present, Disney Dreamlight Valley features six antagonists in its character lineup, and another is scheduled to join during summer as part of the second chapter of the Storybook Vale expansion pack. This brings the total number of villains in the game up to seven. Interestingly, three villains are available in the base game, while each expansion pass includes two.
Disney Dreamlight Valley Base Game Villains
Mother Gothel
Initially, two antagonists were introduced in Disney Dreamlight Valley upon its release. Among these initial villains, Mother Gothel stood out as a unique case among the base game characters. Unlike the other launch-time villain, Mother Gothel was the sole character from her movie who remained in Disney Dreamlight Valley for an extended period of time. Over time, Rapunzel, her adoptive daughter, and Flynn Rider were added to the game through the A Rift in Time and Storybook Vale expansion passes respectively. This means that Mother Gothel belongs to a group of villains in Disney Dreamlight Valley who are apart from their respective heroes. She is currently the only base game character who represents this division.
During the adventure titled “The Curse,” players encounter and can release Mother Gothel from a locked state. In this journey, explorers delve into a massive tree located in the Glade of Trust, where they’ll come across and ultimately free Tangled’s antagonist. Upon establishing friendship with Mother Gothel, players receive rewards such as three motifs, three clothing items, and one piece of furniture.
Ursula
At the debut of Disney Dreamlight Valley, the other antagonist introduced was Ursula. Characters from her world such as Ariel and Prince Eric were also included in the game’s initial character lineup. In-game, Ursula usually appears as herself, but players can obtain her “Vanessa” aesthetic as part of the Ursula’s Transformation Dream Bundle, which costs 4,000 Moonstones.
During the mission titled “With Great Power…”, players can gain access to Ursula. This mission becomes accessible after completing the main storyline missions that lead to opening Dazzle Beach. What makes Ursula special is that her residence, a mysterious dark sea cave, is opened through a separate friendship quest entitled “Lair Sweet Lair”. Upon building a friendship with Ursula, players will receive various rewards such as three motifs, two outfits, and two pieces of furniture.
Scar
In the initial rollout of the game, Scar first joined the cast of Disney Dreamlight Valley. Subsequent updates introduced Nala and Simba in version 1.4, followed by Timon and Pumbaa in version 1.13 or the Jungle Getaway update. As a result, The Lion King franchise boasts the largest character count within Disney Dreamlight Valley.
In my Disney Dreamlight Valley adventure, I’ve found that freeing Scar is a bit more challenging than welcoming Mother Gothel and Ursula into our community. The journey begins by progressing through the main storyline, focusing on The Curse mission. To access the Sunlit Plateau, you’ll need 7,000 Dreamlight.
Once you’ve advanced enough to restore the Pillars of Friendship, Courage, Power, and Trust, a path to Scar’s Cave will open up. This adventure also unlocks a quest for restoring the Sunlit Plateau pillar itself.
As a reward for earning Scar’s friendship in Disney Dreamlight Valley, you’ll receive three unique motifs and four pieces of exclusive furniture!
A Rift in Time’s Villains
Gaston
The “A Rift in Time” expansion pack has been updated in various sections. Initially, both villains featured in “A Rift in Time’s” character roster were accessible in the DLC’s first Act. However, only one of these villains was initially playable as a villager. Now, with the expansion, Gaston can be found strutting around Eternity Isle and other locations within the Valley. In Disney Dreamlight Valley, Belle and the Beast are also characters, but they are distinct from Gaston because they are part of the base game.
As a dedicated cinephile, I’ve discovered that there are several tasks I must accomplish before I can recruit Gaston to my Village. Once you’ve gained access to the breathtaking expanse known as the Glittering Dunes, three captivating story quests for Gaston will become available: The Wanderer of the Dunes, The Wild Tangle’s Swarm, and Diamond in the Rough. Only by successfully completing all these engrossing tales will I earn the privilege of having Gaston as a fellow resident in my Village. You can find Gaston standing tall near the quicksand in the westernmost part of The Plains within the Glittering Dunes. His Friendship Rewards are quite impressive, offering three unique motifs, two pieces of exquisite furniture, and two stylish clothing items to adorn my abode.
Jafar
In a recent update, Jafar made his entrance into Disney Dreamlight Valley via the A Rift in Time expansion pack. At this point, he doesn’t show up as a villager until Act 3. Notably, Jafar is currently the only character from Aladdin within Disney Dreamlight Valley. The upcoming 2025 plan for the game hints at the arrival of Aladdin and Jasmine in the near future. Similar to Mother Gothel and Gaston, Jafar will initially be introduced separately before Aladdin and Jasmine are integrated into the main game of Disney Dreamlight Valley.
As soon as players buy the A Rift in Time expansion, they’re welcomed by a hologram of Jafar in the Plaza, initiating the quest known as The Port of Many Worlds. This journey takes them to Eternity Isle. Through the story of A Rift in Time, Jafar plays a significant role, but he isn’t accessible for players until they face him in the final Eternity Isle Story quest, The Now and Then. After this encounter, Oswald offers a subsequent quest, The Lesser Evil, allowing you to invite Jafar. Rewarding friendship with Jafar provides three motifs, two furniture items, and three clothing pieces.
Storybook Vale’s Villains
Hades
In the Disney Dreamlight Valley, Hades is the sole character from the Storybook Vale expansion who’s been introduced as a villager. He’s also the lone representative of the movie “Hercules” in the game up until now. The 2025 roadmap for Disney Dreamlight Valley doesn’t hint at any more characters from “Hercules”, which suggests that Herc and Megara might not be joining the Valley this year.
To access Hades, players need to finish the Guts & Glory main storyline first. After that, they should conquer the Trial chamber within the Elysian Fields. Once you have accumulated 10,000 Star Coins, construct Hades’ Lair. Upon completion, Hades will settle in the Valley. As a friend of Hades, players will receive three motifs, two furniture items, and three clothing pieces as rewards.
Maleficent
In the Storybook Vale expansion, it appears that Maleficent is assuming a role akin to Jafar’s in A Rift in Time. She serves as the primary antagonist for the DLC and will be included among the villagers during the second chapter of the Storybook Vale expansion pass. At present, specifics about how to unlock Maleficent, her daily routine, and rewards for becoming friends with her are yet to be disclosed. However, players have a chance to come across her briefly in the main story quest titled “The Mistress of All Evil.
In essence, the array of villains in Disney Dreamlight Valley significantly enhances the game’s cast of characters. Looking ahead to Disney Dreamlight Valley‘s 2025 plans, it appears that we can expect more villains to be added to the roster in the future.
