2026 looks like a huge year for the Dragon Ball franchise, with the Dragon Ball Genkidama Matsuri event planned for January 25th. Fans are excited about the possibility of a new anime series and the manga potentially returning after a break. The return of Dragon Ball Super feels more likely than ever. The manga went on hiatus after an epilogue to Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero which featured a long-awaited sparring match between Goku and Gohan, showcasing their incredible power growth throughout the series.
Following his brief but impactful appearance at the end of the Granolah Saga, Black Frieza remains a major threat. When Dragon Ball Super returns, the story will likely focus on Goku and Vegeta finally confronting and defeating the universe’s strongest villain in a new arc. With each character now possessing incredible new transformations and power-ups, they’ll need to utilize everything they’ve learned to overcome Black Frieza for good.
5. Orange Piccolo is Finally on Par With Goku & Vegeta After Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero
When creating Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Akira Toriyama really wanted to bring Piccolo back to the same power level as Goku and Vegeta. Piccolo is Toriyama’s favorite character, but he lost ground during the Dragon Ball Z Cell Saga and couldn’t keep up with the Saiyans’ increasingly powerful transformations. That all changed in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero when Shenron gave Piccolo a special boost.
Orange Piccolo is the most powerful version of Piccolo we’ve seen in a long time. While he couldn’t defeat Cell Max, even being able to battle him was a significant accomplishment. Despite being the weakest of Dragon Ball Super’s main five characters, Orange Piccolo’s new power level gives him a lot of potential for further growth. Although Piccolo isn’t the first hero you’d think of to fight Black Frieza, he has a strong personal reason, considering Frieza destroyed the Namekian people in Dragon Ball Z.
4. Legendary Super Saiyan Broly Will Be Unstoppable Once He Learns to Control His Full Power
Adding Broly to the official Dragon Ball storyline was a smart move for Dragon Ball Super. He went from being a fairly simple villain in Dragon Ball Z to becoming one of the strongest and most interesting characters in Super. Broly’s power level is incredible – in the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly, he could even hold his own against Goku in his God form without transforming. When he reached his full Legendary Super Saiyan power, Goku and Vegeta had to fuse into Gogeta and use their strongest form, Super Saiyan Blue, just to defeat him.
By the end of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Broly’s power level is already comparable to Gohan in his Beast form, even without using his own advanced transformations. If Broly masters his emotions and learns to control his Legendary Super Saiyan form, he has the potential to become the strongest character in Dragon Ball who isn’t the result of a fusion. Adding to his motivation, Frieza murdered Broly’s father, giving Broly a strong reason to grow even stronger and potentially defeat Frieza himself.
3. Mastered Ultra Instinct Goku is Getting Stronger With Each Saga
Despite what many fans think, Goku isn’t usually the strongest character in Dragon Ball, and that holds true in Dragon Ball Super. Currently, as of the Super Hero movie, both Vegeta and Gohan have surpassed him. Vegeta actually defeats Goku in a fair fight at the end of the film (though both are in their base forms), and Gohan’s “Beast” form was powerful enough to knock Goku out of his Ultra Instinct state during training. However, it’s likely Goku will eventually regain the lead and become stronger than the other Saiyans again.
Throughout Dragon Ball Super, Goku steadily improves his control over Ultra Instinct. He can now fully transform into Mastered Ultra Instinct whenever he needs to, and even combine it with different Super Saiyan forms, like during the fight with Granolah. He also discovered a way to project his energy outside his body while using Ultra Instinct during the battle with Moro, hinting at even more powerful techniques in the future. Having already defeated Frieza twice, Goku is the most probable character to finally defeat him for good, as the central hero of Dragon Ball Super.
2. Ultra Ego Vegeta is Stronger Than Goku – For Now
Vegeta legitimately defeated Goku for the first time in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and he’s currently enjoying a winning streak. His Ultra Ego transformation is actually more powerful than Goku’s Ultra Instinct, becoming even stronger as the fight goes on. However, Ultra Ego has a major weakness: Vegeta can push himself too far and become exhausted, which is what nearly happens during his fight with Gas.
Let’s be real, even without Ultra Ego, Vegeta is still incredibly strong. Remember that little fight he had with Gohan Beast at the end of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero? He held his own surprisingly well! It wasn’t as drawn-out as Goku’s fight, but the fact that Vegeta could even keep up shows just how powerful he’s become. And honestly, there’s a huge difference between him and Goku when it comes to Frieza. Goku’s defeated him a bunch, but Vegeta… Frieza completely destroyed Vegeta’s life, basically turning him into a slave as a kid. So, if anyone deserves to be the one to finally take Frieza down for good, it’s definitely Vegeta. He’s got the strongest motivation, hands down.
1. Gohan Beast is the Strongest Main Character in Dragon Ball Super

At the end of Dragon Ball Z, Gohan was the most powerful character without needing to fuse with anyone. However, he lost that position early in Dragon Ball Super. The introduction of God Ki, combined with Gohan’s decrease in training, caused him to fall behind in power. He didn’t regain his strength until the Tournament of Power. Finally, in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Gohan achieves a new transformation that makes him one of the strongest characters once again.
Gohan Beast is currently the strongest of the Z-Fighters, even powerful enough that Whis believes he could potentially replace Beerus as the God of Destruction – though Beerus doesn’t share that opinion. After failing to defeat Frieza on Namek and in the Resurrection ‘F’ saga, Gohan is determined to make things right in the upcoming battle against Black Frieza. He’s the team’s best – and only – real hope for winning this fight; no one else has a chance against him.
