Every Longarm In One Piece

Summary

  • The Longarm Tribe in One Piece faces oppression and prejudice from humans, some integrating with pirates like Scratchmen Apoo.
  • Ideo is a longarm boxer turned pirate captain in the Straw Hat Grand Fleet, known for resilience and explosive punches.
  • Longarm Charlotte Siblings are high-ranking officers in Big Mom Pirates, showing biological compatibility with humans and longlegs.

The Longarm Tribe is uniquely identified by their exceptionally long arms, boasting two elbow joints instead of one like humans. Unfortunately, they face discrimination and mistreatment from human societies, often being reduced to slavery. Some tribe members have developed a fighting style that leverages their extended limbs for enhanced attack capabilities.

Historically, longarms have clashed with the Longleg Tribe. Although they are less significant compared to humans, fish-men, or even minks within the realm of One Piece, longarms have assumed diverse roles throughout the storyline. This discussion will cover every named longarm in the series, several of whom hold government positions or work for notable pirate crews.

1. Scratchmen Apoo

Captain Of The On Air Pirates

  • Debut: Chapter 498 (Manga), Episode 392 (Anime)

I chanced upon a character known as Scratchmen Apoo, hailing from the infamous Worst Generation. This group made their presence felt at the Sabaody Archipelago, each carrying a formidable bounty – in Apoo’s case, an impressive 198 million berries. He stands out uniquely among his peers as the sole longarm to have earned such a high bounty. His peculiar Devil Fruit, the Oto Oto no Mi, endows him with the ability to produce instruments across his body – think piano key teeth! Any individual unfortunate enough to be within his auditory range when he plays these makeshift musical instruments may find themselves on the receiving end of some damage.

Remarkably, Apoo orchestrated a strategic alliance between himself and two other formidable crews from the Worst Generation – the Kid Pirates and the Hawkins Pirates.

The partnership aimed at vanquishing Kaido seemed destined for failure right from the outset, as Apoo had infiltrated their ranks as an informant. His covert purpose was to assimilate other crews into Kaido’s own, the Beasts Pirates, which he had already secretly joined. While the Hawkins Pirates were eventually absorbed, the Kid Pirates remained resistant to his schemes.

During the war against the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance, Apoo faced mistreatment not only from enemies but also from his own crew, as Queen unleashed a virus on him and then administered an antidote. He was further ostracized when everyone else was encouraged to fight him for the cure.

With Kaido’s outcome uncertain, it remains to be seen if Apoo still belongs to the Beasts Pirates or has been ousted due to his treachery and poor performance.

2. Ganryu

Ace’s Crewmate

  • Debut: Chapter 552 (Manga), Episode 461 (Anime)

The Spade Pirates boasted a diverse crew, hailing from numerous origins such as mermaids, cheetahs, and even longarms. Ganryu’s backstory is detailed in Novel A, an account that holds weight since its creators collaborated with Oda on the plotline. Rumor has it that Ganryu struggled to find acceptance until he became a member of the Spade Pirates, and admires their captain, Portgas D. Ace, for not basing judgments solely on physical attributes like joints.

Similarly to other members of his team, Ganryu was bested by Whitebeard and subsequently became part of the Whitebeard Pirates. After joining, not much is known about him, but given the diverse nature of Whitebeard’s crew, it’s reasonable to assume he found a place where he belonged. Interestingly enough, Ace’s father, Gol D. Roger, also had a comrade named Ganryu in his crew.

3. Sancrin

Brook’s Manager

  • Debut: Chapter 557 (Manga; Cover Story), Episode 456 (Anime)

Sancrin was once a longarm, infamous for abducting and showcasing humans within his enterprise. However, after an encounter with Brook, Sancrin and fellow longarms capture Brook instead. It appears they recognized Brook’s potential as a musician and chose to manage him under their supervision. The specific skills they possessed in this area remain uncertain; nonetheless, Brook achieved great fame before reuniting with the Straw Hat Pirates.

Two years into their training, honing their skills, Brook announced to Sancrin and the team that his performance at Sabaody would be his final one, as he planned to return to piracy. This revelation infuriated Sancrin, prompting him to call in marines for their arrest. Since then, they have been sporadically spotted, typically looking disgruntled, possibly because they’ve lost their main source of income.

4. Ideo

Boxer Turned Pirate

  • Debut: Chapter 706 (Manga), Episode 633 (Anime)

Among seven pirate leaders, Ideo is one of them who came together to form the Straw Hat Grand Alliance. This group of pirates pledged their loyalty to Luffy and his comrades following their assistance at Dressrosa. Unlike other captains, Ideo didn’t hold any notable leadership positions beforehand. Instead, he was a well-known longarm boxer who twice emerged victorious in the New World Central Fighting Tournament. Known for his endurance and powerful punches, Ideo strategically hides half of his joints during fights, which enhances his strength when concealed but also expands his reach once released.

In much the same way as many future companions of his, Ideo took part in a competition at Corrida Colosseum, aiming to acquire the Mera Mera no Mi. He was defeated by Chinjao and subsequently disqualified, which led to Sugar transforming him into a toy, causing everyone who knew him to forget he ever existed. However, this situation changed when Usopp managed to knock out Sugar. Ideo was among several combatants who chose not to be influenced by Doflamingo’s rewards on Usopp and his associates; instead, they stood up against the Donquixote Pirates.

Following Doflamingo’s downfall, the group known as the Ideo Pirates came into existence, joining the Straw Hat Grand Alliance. Their vessel was generously provided by fellow fleet commander Orlumbus, a man with an impressive fleet due to his former role as an admiral in the Standing Kingdom. The Ideo Pirates consisted of four members, all veterans from the Colosseum. Abdullah and Jeet were two of these members, who had previously been wanted bounty hunters for explosively destroying a government building. Blue Gilly was another member, interestingly known for his expertise in longleg kickboxing. Ideo and Blue Gilly showed little concern for their tribes’ historical animosity, instead intervening to stop a conflict stemming from it by engaging members from both clans.

5. Diesel

Runaway Train

  • Debut: Chapter 827 (Manga), Episode 786 (Anime)

Diesel is a character from the world of Totto Land who belongs to the Big Mom Pirates. He’s known for being quite boastful about his speed, and it’s justified – he can move quickly, even while carrying multiple passengers in a carriage. His appearance and name suggest that he’s associated with trains due to his swiftness and transportation abilities.

Diesel is a relentless character, who brutally murdered numerous factory workers in order to secure the flour for Sanji and Pudding’s wedding. Despite his ties with the Big Mom Pirates, Diesel was often exploited by the opposition following his defeats at the hands of Pudding and Chopper.

6. The Longarm Charlotte Siblings

Mobile, Marble, Myukuru, And Maple

  • Debut: Chapter 862 (Manga), Episode 832 (Anime); Mobile
  • Debut: Chapter 894 (Manga), Episode 869 (Anime); Marble
  • Debut: Chapter 845 (Manga), Episode 809 (Anime); Myukuru
  • Debut: Chapter 897 (Manga); Maple

In summary, out of 85 children from Charlotte, many are associated with the Big Mom Pirates. Yet, due to the expansive nature of ‘One Piece’, most of these characters, including Myukuru, often receive less attention when it comes to character development, storyline progression, and even simple screen time. Unfortunately, Myukuru has limited appearances, with one of her few images being only concept art that is not fully colored. However, there are some details confirmed about the siblings, which in turn, enhances our understanding of the Longarm Tribe as a whole.

Observing these long-limbed beings, it’s evident that their biology allows for compatibility with longarms. One of them, a resident on Totto Land, further supports this observation in terms of longlegs and longarms. Linlin, after disowning Pound, swiftly married one such longarm, marking him as her 26th husband. This union produced one son, Mobile, and three daughters, Marble, Myukuru, and Maple. Placing them in the family lineage, Mobile is the 31st son, while his sisters are the 24th, 25th, and 26th daughters. Their father was disowned shortly after their birth, paving the way for the one who would later father Charlotte Brownie.

1) The hybrid longarms share the exact joint structure with presumed pure-bred longarms, which complicates the true ancestry of the Longarm Tribe and certain individuals within it. Yet, these kin who possess identical genes display strikingly diverse appearances. Each longarm Charlotte holds an officer rank in the Big Mom Pirates, while Mobile simultaneously governs Futoru Island as the Minister of Tasting.

Because Big Mom has numerous marriages and offspring, the extended Charlotte family includes half-siblings from various backgrounds such as snakenecks, mermaids, and longlegs. Among these, Charlotte Smoothie, their eldest longleg half-sister, stands out significantly within the group, holding the prestigious title of “Sweet Commander,” a position typically given to the crew’s highest-ranking officers.

7. Joseph

Agent Of Cipher Pol 0

  • Debut: Chapter 705 (Manga), Episode 635 (Anime)

CP0, also known as Cipher Pol Aigis 0, is renowned as the most powerful division among the Cipher Pol agencies. These agents operate at the behest of the World Nobles and their top operatives are often referred to as “Masked Assassins,” due to their habit of concealing their identities behind masks. Among them, Joseph stands alone as the long arm of the group, potentially putting himself in a risky position given his close association with the slave-owning World Nobles.

As a martial arts enthusiast, I can’t help but marvel at the mysterious and impressive career of Joseph, whose rank within our organization remains somewhat enigmatic. However, it’s clear that this man is no ordinary fighter; his skillset suggests years of rigorous training from an early age.

It’s widely believed that Joseph possesses a unique martial arts style known as Rokushiki, a formidable set of six superhuman techniques. Remarkably, these skills were said to be mastered by weaker agents within our agency, particularly those who once belonged to Cipher Pol 9.

Though it’s been confirmed that Joseph was proficient in one technique, Geppo, which he used to make a dramatic escape from Onigashima. I can only imagine what other hidden talents this master tactician may possess!

In the land of Wano, Joseph was part of a group known as the Masked Assassins. Their mission, however, didn’t involve just procuring weapons from Kurozumi Orochi; it was more complex. They were tasked with maintaining the current situation in Wano, which included capturing Nico Robin, preventing the emperors from being lost, and thwarting the activation of the Gomu Gomu no Mi. Unfortunately for them, they didn’t succeed in any of these objectives.

8. Shuzo

Disgruntled Neo Marine

  • Debut: Episode 575 (Anime)
  • Note: This character is non-canon

Shuzo was previously a high-ranking marine officer, who had the esteemed honor of being among the pupils of the retired naval commander, Zephyr, also known as ‘Z’. He is recognized as the first marine to wield a longarm, and his trusted companion, Alpacacino – a bazooka – acquired unique alpaca characteristics after consuming a Zoan Devil Fruit. Although Alpacacino functions primarily as a pet, it remains an operational bazooka, capable of discharging shots fortified with armament haki.

Z felt displeased with the Marines’ apparent inefficiency in handling pirates, culminating when the pirate who massacred much of his division was given a spot among the Seven Warlords of the Sea during a time gap. In response, Z established a breakaway group, a militant organization called the Neo Marines, with the aim of eradicating all pirates. Shuzo followed his mentor’s lead, aspiring to reach the position of second-in-command. However, he was defeated in a five-hour battle against Ain, one of Z’s other disciples, relegating him to just a commander role within the Neo Marines.

I observe that Shuzo appears to prioritize glory over reason, disregarding Ain’s instructions, and frequently expressing a desire to kill everyone present when Ain voices concerns about stealth. His actions were particularly disturbing to Momonga, a vice admiral, who felt it necessary to arrest him following his defeat.

9. Ant De Bonham

The Longarm Lieutenant

  • Debut: Episode 780 (Anime)
  • Note: This character is non-canon

Lieutenant Junior Grade Ant De Bonham was once a pupil of Kuzan, who is now recognized as Aokiji, alongside individuals such as Shimoi Zappa and All-Hunt Grount. Similar to his mentor, Kuzan, he left the Marines, but differently, Bonham chose not to follow in those footsteps. In conjunction with Grount and Zappa, Bonham engaged in battle against the Sanji Retrieval Team, ultimately suffering defeat at the hands of Luffy.

Although he’s suffered a defeat, Bonham isn’t devoid of talents. He demonstrates an impressive understanding of Rokushiki and utilizes five out of six of its techniques. Moreover, Bonham possesses a unique ability called Breath Qigong, which lets him transform between two forms: Adios, characterized by strength, and Gracias, emphasizing speed.
