As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Marvel comics under my belt, I can confidently say that Marvel Rivals is shaping up to be an exceptional addition to the hero shooter genre. The roster already boasts some heavy-hitters from the X-Men universe, but there’s still room for more iconic members to join the fray.
1963 marked the beginning of the X-Men, featuring some well-known characters with unexpected differences, such as Beast not appearing blue or furry. The initial run didn’t garner significant sales, but it wasn’t until the innovative periods by Dave Cockrum, Len Wein, John Byrne, and Chris Claremont in the 1970s and 80s that the team truly gained popularity. This refreshed X-Men era also brought a significant shift in the roster. The comic book series, Marvel Rivals, acknowledges this classic line-up in various ways.
As a diehard fan, I can’t contain my excitement about the debut of Marvel Rivals! At its launch, it boasts an impressive roster of 33 playable characters, many of whom hail from the captivating world of the X-Men. Among them are fan favorites like Wolverine, Storm, Magik, Magneto, and Scarlet Witch, but there’s so much more to the X-Men universe that I can’t wait to see added to this hero shooter!
Every Major Member of the X-Men Who Needs to Come to Marvel Rivals
Professor X
In September 1963, the creator and namesake of the X-Men, Charles Xavier, first appeared. It seems fitting that he should have a part in the future of Marvel Rivals given his significance. Despite being physically disabled, Charles Xavier is an extraordinarily potent Mutant with remarkable telekinetic and telepathic abilities, which could make him an ideal support character in the roster of Marvel Rivals.
Cyclops
In the game “Marvel Rivals,” Cyclops, a charter member of the X-Men and one of its prominent leaders, would excel as a Duelist. He’d utilize his powerful optic blasts to swiftly defeat opponents, while his tactical acumen could aid in strengthening teammates.
Jean Grey
Originally one of the founding X-Men members, Jean Grey initially appeared as Marvel Girl but is more frequently recognized as Phoenix or Dark Phoenix. Although Jean Grey possesses formidable telepathic abilities as a Mutant, her link to the Phoenix Force significantly amplifies her power, making it intriguing to include this powerful iteration of the character in Marvel Rivals.
Recent leaks suggest that Jean Grey could be coming to Marvel Rivals in a future update.
Colossus
As a diehard fan, I can’t help but envision the colossal impact Colossus would have on the Marvel Rivals Vanguard roster! The 1975 X-Men team’s indispensable member, Colossus, boasts superhuman strength and an imposing presence that would make him a formidable addition to any team.
Beast
Among the brilliant characters in the Marvel universe, Hank McCoy undergoes a transformation into the Beast due to his mutant genes, taking on a blue-furred form. Given the versatility of Beast’s skillset, he could seamlessly fit into any one of the three roles in Marvel Rivals. His swift claw attacks would make him an excellent Duelist, his larger stature would suit him well as a Vanguard, and his genius-level intellect would open up possibilities for Specialist abilities.
Nightcrawler
In the game Marvel Rivals, there are some characters who possess teleportation abilities; however, Nightcrawler’s mastery over this power makes him an excellent choice for the hero shooter. As a Duelist, Nightcrawler would be able to teleport behind enemy lines, deliver a few attacks, and then swiftly return.
Rogue
As a passionate Marvel fan, I can’t help but envision the thrilling possibilities of incorporating Rogue into the gameplay of Marvel Rivals. Admittedly, her power absorption abilities could pose a challenge when balancing the game dynamics, especially as more heroes join the fray. However, the prospect of seamlessly switching playstyles on the fly with Rogue is incredibly intriguing.
Gambit
Following a renewed surge in interest due to characters like Deadpool, Wolverine, and X-Men ’97, it’s clear that Gambit would be an excellent fit in the Marvel Rivals team. Given his skills centered around dealing kinetic energy damage, Gambit would excel most as a Duelist.
Shadowcat
Over the years, Kitty Pryde has gone by several nicknames, but she’s undeniably one of the most beloved X-Men characters. It’s high time she joined the roster for Marvel Rivals in the coming days. Kitty Pryde’s unique ability to become intangible could lead to an exciting Duelist gameplay experience in Marvel Rivals, allowing players to pass through walls, deal some damage, and then swiftly return to safety.
