Every Metaphor: ReFantazio Tribe Explained

As a seasoned adventurer and collector of exotic lore, I must say that my journey through the enigmatic world of Euchronia has led me to encounter some truly fascinating tribes. Among these, none have left quite the same impression on me as the Rhoag tribe, whose elders seem to carry a wealth of knowledge that rivals even the most ancient libraries. Their peculiar aging process, where they all appear elderly from adolescence onwards, has led many to refer to them as the “evergreens” of Euchronia.

The freshly launched IP by Atlus titled “Metaphor: ReFantazio” has made its debut, providing gamers with a captivating 100-hour journey in the United Kingdom of Euchronia where the hero embarks on a mission to protect the kingdom. Similar to previous Atlus games such as “Persona“, “Metaphor: ReFantazio” is rich with mythology, and a significant portion of this comes from the diverse tribes that populate its universe.

In the game “Metaphor: ReFantazio,” there are nine unique tribes that form the diverse population and perpetuate various biases within the Kingdom of Euchronia. Each tribe stands out distinctively, whether it’s through their physical characteristics, demographic contributions, or special skills. Players seeking insight into why the Kingdom of Euchronia functions as it does should consult “Metaphor: ReFantazio”‘s Memorandum for details on the tribes that shape its world.

The History and Lore of Every Tribe in Metaphor: ReFantazio

The Elda Tribe Makes Up a Very Rare and Magical Group of People

In the game ReFantazio, it’s common knowledge that the main character belongs to the Elda tribe. This means players will encounter and feel the deep-seated prejudice towards Eldas as they traverse the city of Grand Trad in the world of Euchronia. The Elda tribe differs significantly from the other eight tribes due to their human-like features, whereas each of ReFantazio’s other tribes have unique characteristics that set them apart. As a result, many view Eldas as inferior beings. Additionally, members of the Elda tribe are shunned by the Sanctist Church because they possess a powerful magic that goes against the church’s teachings. This discrimination leads to their rare public appearances.

The Clemar Tribe Composes the Largest Population in Euchronia

During their gameplay of Metaphor: ReFantazio, players are likely to become very acquainted with the Clemar tribe, as it is the most populous in Euchronia. One notable character from this tribe is Leon Strohl, who has gained significant attention, being considered one of the game’s standout personalities. However, Strohl doesn’t embody all the traits that are typical among his fellow Clemars. The Clemar tribe holds a significant influence in Euchronia’s government, with many key positions occupied by them. Interestingly, the ruling family of Euchronia is also entirely Clemar. This power dynamic often leads Clemars to feel indispensable to Euchronia’s existence, but Strohl’s humility keeps him from thinking that way about himself.

Clemar are physically characterized by the horns that grow on the sides of their heads.

The Roussainte Tribe Consists of Excellent Fighters

The Roussainte tribe can be thought of as ReFantazio’s interpretation of elves, characterized by their long, pointed ears and battle-hardened reputation. One character, Metaphor’s Hulkenberg, who players encounter early in the game, is a member of this tribe, and her combat skills serve to reinforce this connection. They can also be likened to The Legend of Zelda’s Gerudo, as the women within the Roussainte tribe are typically stronger than men from other tribes. Members of the Roussainte tribe seek chances to demonstrate their superiority over others by outdoing them, and they constitute the second-largest population in Euchronia.

The Paripus Tribe Is Highly Discriminated Despite Its Population

The Paripus Tribe, much like the ReFantazio metaphor’s other tribes, faces discrimination, yet not based on physical traits or skills. Instead, the Paripus are characterized by a carefree demeanor that many Euchronians view as reckless. This stereotype often leads to prejudice, particularly in urban areas. Interestingly, members of this tribe have distinctive bestial features, such as tails, and they are known for their love of celebrations and festivities due to their upbeat personalities.

Many of Metaphor: ReFantazio’s Tribes Face Discrimination

The Rhoag Tribe’s Members Live Much Longer Than the Other Tribes

The community of ReFantazio’s Rhoag tribe consists of people who live about twice as long as other tribes, giving them an abundance of wisdom they seek to share. One distinguishing trait is that they all age at the same rate until adolescence, after which they remain in middle and advanced ages. Consequently, they tend to appear older, and are frequently referred to as the “elderly.” Additionally, they practice traditional facial adornments, and have been noted to hold grudges lasting up to three generations.

The Mustari Tribe Members Have a Third Eye That They Use to See Magla

In the fictional world of Metaphor: ReFantazio, the Mustari tribe stands out among other groups because they possess a third eye that enables them to perceive Magla. This unique physical trait prompts them to don masks, and their distinct religious practices demand they wear ceremonial attire continuously. Despite not being particularly uncommon in Metaphor: ReFantazio, the Mustari reside on the Virga Island archipelago, making them less frequently encountered in Grand Trad, Euchronia. Regrettably, like the Elda and Paripus tribes, they endure some discrimination due to their faith-based practices.

Euchronians often refer to them as “pagans” as a result.

The Eugief Tribe Is Made Up of Bat-Like Individuals at the Bottom Rungs of Society

In the game, ReFantazio, the Eugief tribe stands out as one of the most ostracized groups due to their unique bat-like features which are often perceived as frightening and unsettling by others. However, unlike other tribes, members of the Eugief tribe possess night vision and exceptional hearing, similar to real bats. They are remarkably swift and agile, yet they choose to channel their energy into farming and hunting instead. All Eugiefs are kind-hearted individuals who prefer collaboration over solitude. Sadly, the discrimination they face doesn’t seem to enhance this trait of theirs significantly.

The Nidia Tribe’s Members Are Excellent at Winning the Hearts of Others

Among Refantazio’s most friendly and captivating groups, the Nidia tribe stands out. Their charm is so potent that they are renowned for winning over others effortlessly. They typically opt to reside within the city, finding it a safer environment. Despite their openness, there remains an enigmatic depth to them. Similarly to the Roussainte tribe, the Nidia can be likened to Zelda’s Gerudo, due to their exclusive nature within their own settlements.

The Ishkia Tribe Is Composed of Highly Intelligent, Winged Individuals

In the fictional world of Metaphor: ReFantazio, the Ishkia tribe is a remarkable group known for their dual pairs of wings and distinguished as scholars and clergy. They are admired for their aesthetic appeal by others. However, some members of this intelligent tribe may exhibit a haughty attitude towards others due to their own intelligence, which can incite similar behavior from those on the receiving end. Notably, among all tribes in Metaphor: ReFantazio, Ishkia has the smallest population.
