With the new year here, let’s take a look at the exciting Nintendo games coming in 2026.
After the Nintendo Switch 2 launches successfully in 2025, Nintendo is expected to build on that initial excitement. The year saw six brand-new first-party games released for the system, alongside updated content for existing Switch titles. Strong support from independent developers and surprisingly good ports of major games like Cyberpunk 2077 also contributed to the console’s success.
That’s all in the past now, though, and we have a lot to look forward to in 2026.
As of today, Nintendo hasn’t announced all of its games planned for 2026. However, we already know there are several exciting titles on the way.
This list features games that will only be available on the new Nintendo Switch 2, and also includes games you can play on the current Nintendo Switch.
9. Mario Tennis Fever
Release Date: February 12th, 2026
It was only a matter of time before Mario’s sports games came back with the release of Nintendo’s new console, especially after the success of Mario Kart.
The new Mario Tennis game, Mario Tennis Fever, is coming soon. It aims to improve upon the previous game, Mario Tennis Aces, which some players found lacked depth.
Players will have a huge selection of characters to choose from – a record-breaking 38! Each character has access to 30 unique Fever Rackets, giving them special abilities. Nintendo is blending classic tennis gameplay with the fun, quirky style of Mario Sports, and offering a variety of ways to play, including Tournament, Trial Towers, and an Adventure mode.
8. Pokémon Pokopia
Release Date: March 5th, 2026
Okay, so imagine a Pokémon game, but instead of battling and being a trainer, it’s all about living a cozy life in the Pokémon world. And get this – you play as a Ditto who’s transformed into a human! That’s the idea behind Pokémon Pokopia, and it’s coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 this March. I’m seriously hyped to just chill and live my best life as a human-Ditto!
This game has everything you’d expect from a relaxing life simulator, but with a charming Pokémon twist. While it’s not quite Animal Crossing, it’s a great way to pass the time until the next Animal Crossing game comes out on the new Switch console, hopefully soon!
With cozy games being so popular right now, and Pokémon being one of the biggest franchises ever, this has the potential to be a huge hit.
7. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream
Release Date: Spring 2026
If you want a life simulation game that focuses on everyday activities rather than collecting creatures, Tomodachi Life is a great choice.
Tomodachi Life, the sequel to the popular Nintendo 3DS game, lets you create and control your own virtual life. Design a Mii character, give them a unique personality, and see what happens!
If this game seems similar to The Sims, you’re not wrong! However, it definitely has a unique Nintendo style, with a focus on fun, unpredictable, and often silly gameplay – the kind that’s become popular online.
Tomodachi Life will also be available for the Nintendo Switch.
6. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book
Release Date: Spring 2026
It was a surprise to see a new Yoshi side-scrolling game announced for the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026, but here it is! Considering the Switch 2 launched with a new 3D Donkey Kong game, though, it seems like anything could happen.
Yoshi’s new game will likely be charming and colorful, fitting its playful platforming style. The main idea is that Yoshi goes inside a storybook to find and befriend different creatures, and each creature has special powers that players can use.
Okay, so they haven’t shown us everything yet, but honestly, I’m getting a strong vibe that this new game will play a lot like Yoshi’s Woolly World. It just feels like it’s going to have that same kind of cozy, creative gameplay.
5. The Duskbloods
Release Date: 2026
Let’s discuss a surprising announcement: the next game from FromSoftware will be exclusive to the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
This isn’t a typical Souls-like game. Like Elden Ring: Nightreign, it focuses on both battling other players and fighting enemies, and supports up to eight players at once. Considering how well Nightreign did, FromSoftware deserves the chance to prove what this new game can do.
The Duskbloods immediately brings Bloodborne to mind, which is a great sign. Considering FromSoftware’s history, we’re confident this game will be excellent.
4. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave
Release Date: 2026
Nintendo’s September 2025 Direct presentation ended with the exciting announcement of a new Fire Emblem game coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.
Fortune’s Weave seems to be aiming for a style similar to the popular Three Houses, and I think that’s a positive move. The presentation, story, and characters in Engage were quite controversial, and I personally didn’t enjoy them very much.
We can likely anticipate more of what players love about Fire Emblem – deep fantasy tactics, character relationships, and a compelling story – all of which have contributed to the series’ popularity.
3. Rhythm Heaven Groove
Release Date: 2026
The Rhythm Heaven series first launched in 2006 and has been delighting players with its unique musical gameplay for twenty years.
Nintendo is reviving the popular Rhythm Heaven series this year for both the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. Players will enjoy fast-paced, rhythm-based mini-games similar in style to the WarioWare series.

Nintendo will likely showcase the full game during a Nintendo Direct presentation in early 2026, with February or March being the most probable timeframe, based on past patterns.
2. Pokémon Champions
Release Date: TBA
A spin-off from the mainline Pokémon franchise, Pokémon Champions is all about multiplayer action.
We don’t have many specifics about the game yet, but it’s shaping up to be similar to the Pokémon Stadium series, centering around Pokémon battles against other players.
A key feature of the new Pokémon Champions is the ability to play on both Nintendo Switch and mobile devices. Players will also be able to battle Pokémon from different generations, including exciting matchups between Mega Evolutions and the new Tera Pokémon.
1. Splatoon Raiders
Release Date: TBA
While not a full Splatoon sequel, Nintendo’s hit shooter is coming to the next Nintendo Switch as a new spin-off game.
We’re hoping Splatoon Raiders, where players take on the role of the “Mechanic” while discovering the Spirhalite Islands, will be released this year, but Nintendo hasn’t officially announced a 2026 release date yet.
Splatoon Raiders might still be some time away, but Nintendo is known for keeping its plans secret until just before a game launches. We’ll have to wait and see if that’s happening with this game as well.
