Every Pirate Who Defeated Roronoa Zoro In One Piece

This article contains spoilers from One Piece’s Final Saga.

Roronoa Zoro, the swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates, is a remarkably skilled fighter who has become exceptionally strong over time. His ultimate goal is to be the world’s greatest swordsman, and he’s faced numerous challenging battles in pursuit of that dream.

Zoro started as a pirate hunter but became a pirate himself, leading to countless battles. Though he usually wins, a few opponents have decisively defeated him. It’s uncommon for Zoro to lose, but these individuals were able to overcome his strength.

Buggy

Beat Zoro In Orange Town

It’s surprising to many fans, but it’s true that Buggy once defeated Zoro in battle. During their first fight, Buggy made it seem like Zoro had cut him in half, but he cleverly used his Devil Fruit power to stab Zoro in the back, knocking him out of the fight.

Buggy easily could have killed Zoro during their fight, but he intentionally held back and didn’t strike a fatal blow. This demonstrates that Buggy deliberately let Zoro live, despite Zoro losing the battle badly.

Arlong

Was Overwhelmingly Stronger Than Zoro

Arlong used to be the captain of the Arlong Pirates and was a major threat to the Konomi Islands. In the Arlong Park arc of One Piece, viewers watched as the Straw Hat Pirates fought against Arlong and his crew. Although Luffy ultimately defeated Arlong, his crewmates worked hard to keep Arlong busy while he dealt with his own challenges.

Zoro and Sanji both fought hard against Arlong, but neither could defeat him. Zoro was easily overpowered, largely because he was already badly injured from his fight with Mihawk and simply wasn’t strong enough to win. He would have likely been killed if Luffy hadn’t intervened.

Bartholomew Kuma

Defeated Zoro In Thriller Bark

I’ve seen Bartholomew Kuma defeat Zoro several times now. Their first fight was on Thriller Bark, and even though Zoro put up a good fight, he quickly understood he couldn’t win. He realized Kuma was simply too strong. Instead of letting Kuma harm Luffy, Zoro offered himself, and Kuma agreed, subjecting him to the same pain Luffy was experiencing as a kind of test.

Zoro’s attacks didn’t even faze Kuma, highlighting the massive gap in their power. Kuma could have defeated Zoro easily if he’d wanted to, making this another defeat for Zoro.

Dracule Mihawk

Beat Zoro In Baratie

Zoro’s toughest loss likely came from Dracule Mihawk. They clashed during the Baratie arc in One Piece, where Zoro aimed to defeat Mihawk and become the world’s strongest swordsman. However, Mihawk proved to be far superior, defeating Zoro even while using only a pocket knife – Zoro was using all three of his swords at the time.

Zoro suffered a crushing defeat, receiving a deep chest wound that left a permanent scar. Though Mihawk could have killed him, he recognized Zoro’s incredible potential and decided to spare his life. Mihawk now waits at the peak of his strength, anticipating the day Zoro will challenge and overcome him.

Kaido

Beat Zoro In Wano

Currently, Kaido is the only pirate who has defeated Zoro in combat. The battle took place on the roof of Onigashima, where Zoro and the other members of the Worst Generation fought against the incredibly powerful Kaido. Although Zoro fought valiantly and landed some strong hits, he ultimately couldn’t overcome Kaido’s strength as a Yonko.

After Zoro unleashed his strongest attack and wounded Kaido, the Yonko responded with his full power. Kaido used a devastating Thunder Bagua, enhanced by Conqueror’s Haki, which simultaneously knocked out both Zoro and Law. Zoro was already weakened from a previous attack, making it impossible for him to withstand the Thunder Bagua, and he immediately lost consciousness. While Law managed to endure the attack and stay aware, Luffy, having just woken up, asked Law to help downstairs. He assured Law that he would handle Kaido himself. Law then took the defeated Zoro with him, and Zoro went on to fight King, a battle he narrowly won.
