Every PlayStation Game Currently Rumored to be In Development

As a seasoned PlayStation veteran with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must admit that the prospect of upcoming PlayStation games has me absolutely giddy with excitement! With Sony’s powerhouse studios like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica Studio, Guerrilla Games, and Insomniac Games cooking up a storm, it feels like we’re on the verge of a golden age for PS5 gamers.

As we approach the end of this console generation, the PlayStation 5 has been a resounding success for Sony, selling over 65 million units and generating record profits. Notably, Sony’s in-house development teams have released numerous critically acclaimed games for the PS5 during the past four years, including titles like God of War Ragnarok, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the remake of Demon’s Souls, Astro Bot, Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, and many more.

Many PlayStation enthusiasts are curious about what upcoming releases might be in store. While Sony has numerous first-party development studios (19 to be exact), there’s been a noticeable silence regarding their ongoing projects for some time now. Nonetheless, Sony assures us that major PS5 titles will be released annually, making it worthwhile to keep an eye out for the rumored games that could potentially emerge from these first-party studios in the near future.

Rumored Games in Development at PlayStation’s Biggest First-Party Studios

Among the four notable studios associated with PlayStation, Naughty Dog has been quiet for the longest period without a new game launch. It’s said that this studio is working on not just one but two projects: a fresh, original concept, and potentially The Last of Us Part 3. On the other hand, Santa Monica Studio is also cooking up something innovative, and they are reportedly developing the next major God of War installment along with a spin-off title focusing on Atreus. It’s possible that both these projects could be part of the same endeavor.

Since game developers are usually quite mysterious about their work-in-progress titles, it’s advisable to approach the mentioned PlayStation games as potential possibilities rather than definite facts.

It’s no shock that Guerrilla, who oversees the thriving Horizon series, is developing more Horizon games. In fact, it was revealed in 2022 that they have both a multiplayer Horizon game and a third mainline installment in production. However, rumors of a Horizon MMORPG being developed with NCSoft have been circulating for some time. Lastly, Insomniac, whose data breach in December 2023 exposed their game release plan for the following nine years, has big titles lined up such as Marvel’s Spider-Man 3, a Venom spin-off, a new Ratchet and Clank game, and even an X-Men game.

Every Rumored PlayStation First-Party Game in Development

  • Firesprite: Until Dawn 2
  • Guerrilla Games: Horizon MMO
  • Nixxes Software: God of War Greek saga remasters
  • Santa Monica Studio: Next mainline God of War game and Atreus spin-off
  • Unnamed Jason Blundell Studio: Currently unknown, possibly continuing Deviation Games’ project

From my perspective as a fellow gamer, I’ve got a feeling that Firesprite might be cooking up something exciting related to “Until Dawn 2”. The job listings they’ve posted hint at it, and the extended ending sequences in the recent remake of “Until Dawn” certainly leave us hanging for more of the story.

Nixxes Software has built a reputation for delivering top-notch PC versions of games from PlayStation Studios. Now, they’re spearheading the development of Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, which could suggest that Sony is planning to give Nixxes more responsibilities beyond just their porting team. Moreover, whispers in the gaming community hint towards Nixxes working on a compilation of remastered God of War games set in ancient Greece. If true, these remasters are expected to drop in 2025, coinciding with the series’ 20th anniversary celebration. This means fans won’t have to wait too long to find out if this rumor holds water.

Unconfirmed reports suggest that there may be a PlayStation team in existence, although this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. It’s rumored that this team could be a new studio being formed with members from Deviation Games, a relatively young studio which partnered with Sony two years ago. Sadly, Deviation Games had to shut down earlier this year due to financial difficulties, layoffs, and key personnel departures, including one of its co-founders, Jason Blundell. Intriguingly, it’s speculated that Blundell is now leading this secretive PlayStation studio, but we don’t know what they are working on at the moment. The general assumption is that Blundell’s team might be continuing with Deviation’s project, but it may take several years before this is officially confirmed.
