Rockstar Games is one of the most respected names in the industry, known for consistently delivering high-quality games. The *Grand Theft Auto* series is incredibly popular and has cemented their reputation, but even beyond *GTA*, Rockstar has created many other fantastic games that are still enjoyable to play today.
Each new game from Rockstar is a major release, and creating high-quality games requires significant time and effort. Because Rockstar focuses all its energy on one big project at a time, there have been long waits between their games over the last ten years.
With the highly anticipated release of *Grand Theft Auto 6* expected in 2026, it’s a great time to revisit some of Rockstar’s best games currently available. Fortunately, Rockstar consistently updates its older titles, bringing them to new platforms and ensuring they remain enjoyable for modern players.
Red Dead Redemption 2
The Most Immersive Open World
Even after nearly seven years, Red Dead Redemption 2 remains a standout title in the open-world genre, known for its incredible quality and attention to detail. Players can immerse themselves in a captivating, lengthy single-player story-often exceeding 100 hours-or connect with others in the separate multiplayer mode, Red Dead Online.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is still considered one of the best open-world games available today, thanks to its beautiful graphics, detailed world, and tons of things to do. Despite being playable on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, it hasn’t yet received an upgrade specifically designed for those consoles.
Grand Theft Auto 5
Enduring Popularity
With over 215 million copies sold, GTA 5 is one of the most popular video games ever made. For more than ten years, it’s consistently been a top-selling and highly-played game on every platform, and millions of players continue to enjoy its constantly updated online world, GTA Online.
Okay, so everyone talks about the crazy online stuff in *Grand Theft Auto 5*, but honestly, the story mode still holds up really well, even in 2025. The characters are awesome, the missions are a blast, and I practically know Los Santos like the back of my hand at this point. Some people even think *GTA 5* is the only game that can really go up against *GTA 6* when it finally drops.
L.A. Noire
Immersive and Authentic
L.A. Noire is a special game developed by Team Bondi that has steadily gained a dedicated following over time. It’s a remarkably ambitious title, fully committed to delivering a top-tier detective experience, and successfully transports players to a beautifully realized past era, making it a joy to explore.
Although the detailed facial animations in *L.A. Noire*, created using MotionScan technology, aren’t quite as advanced as today’s standards, it doesn’t detract from the game’s quality. And if you have a VR headset, *L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files* is definitely worth checking out.
Max Payne 3
Holds Up Remarkably Well Among Third-Person Shooters
When *Max Payne 3* first came out in the early 2010s, it divided fans – many felt it was too different from previous games in the series. However, over time, more and more players have come to see it as a strong and innovative addition to the *Max Payne* story, and a really exciting third-person shooter.
Even years later, *Max Payne 3* remains a standout action game thanks to its intense and impactful gameplay. Its unique look and dark, realistic setting truly immerse players in the world of São Paulo, making it a great choice for anyone who enjoys action games.
Grand Theft Auto 4: The Complete Edition
Still The Darkest Entry in the Series
Grand Theft Auto 4 was a groundbreaking game for the series, boasting incredible graphics and realistic physics in its open world – it was a technical achievement when it came out. Interestingly, in certain aspects of detail and how the game world responds to the player, it still holds up against, and even surpasses, Grand Theft Auto 5.
Beyond its gameplay, *Grand Theft Auto 4* stood out with its realistic, bleak setting and emotionally complex story. It’s considered the most serious and dramatic installment in the series, and its expansions, *The Lost and Damned* and *The Ballad of Gay Tony*, are consistently praised as some of the best stories the franchise has to offer.
Red Dead Redemption
Continuing the Wild West Saga
As a huge fan of Red Dead Redemption 2, I finally got around to playing the original Red Dead Redemption, and I’m so glad I did! It’s a direct sequel to RDR2’s story, so it really adds to the whole experience. And honestly, even though it came out 15 years ago, the PC version got updated in 2024 and still plays great. If you love open-world games, you absolutely need to check it out – it’s fantastic!
Many fans loved the single-player add-on for *Red Dead Redemption* called *Undead Nightmare*. It reimagined the Wild West with a zombie apocalypse, and there’s been a lot of demand for a similar experience in *Red Dead Redemption 2*.
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition
Here We Go Again
Though released within *Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition*, *San Andreas – The Definitive Edition* wasn’t made by Rockstar Games themselves. Instead, Grove Street Games rebuilt it using Unreal Engine. While the initial launch had some technical problems that didn’t meet Rockstar’s high quality standards, the game was quickly updated and fixed. Many consider it the best way to play *San Andreas* now.
Although many loyal fans still love the original *GTA: San Andreas* – a game that holds special memories for a lot of people – this new version offers a modern and accessible way to experience it, and early signs suggest players are really having fun.
Bully: Scholarship Edition
A Rockstar Game Like No Other
Bully: Scholarship Edition (also called Canis Canem Edit) is a standout title from Rockstar Games. It’s a well-made school simulator that remains one of a kind, even years after it first came out. Despite being an older game, Bully offers a compelling escape thanks to its focused open world and unforgettable characters, bringing a nostalgic revisit to school life.
Although a complete remake never happened, *Bully* was updated and re-released for PlayStation 4 and mobile devices in 2016 as the *Anniversary Edition*. This makes it easy for players today to experience the game.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – The Definitive Edition
One of the Most Iconic GTA Entries Reimagined
Similar to the updated version of *San Andreas*, *Vice City – The Definitive Edition* was created by Grove Street Games as part of a trilogy package. It initially had some problems when it launched, but these were quickly fixed.
It’s natural that updating the classic *GTA: Vice City* would change some of what made it special, so whether you prefer the original or the newer version is really a matter of personal taste. Given that the original game is over twenty years old, the *Definitive Edition* is probably the better way to experience *Vice City* for most players today.
