In the Borderlands series, Sirens are extraordinarily potent entities capable of performing incredible acts. The origin and function of these Sirens within the Borderlands universe remain shrouded in enigma. According to established mythos, there can be no more than six Sirens coexisting at once. However, the reason for this limitation is not definitively known. While there have been hints about a seventh Siren in game dialogues, no concrete evidence of such a character has been observed within the games themselves.
In the popular Borderlands series, Sirens hold significant importance and often serve as key figures in each game’s storyline, whether they are playable characters or essential non-player characters. It’s expected that this trend will continue in the potential sequel, Borderlands 4. Given the history of the franchise, it’s intriguing to speculate about which Sirens might appear. At the time of Borderlands 4, there could be as many as six Sirens still alive. The developers may further elaborate on these characters’ backgrounds in the upcoming game, potentially even introducing a seventh Siren, a rumor that adds an extra layer of anticipation.
Amara
Siren Powers: Phaseslam, Phasecast, Phasegrasp, & Phaseflare
- Notable appearance(s): Borderlands 3, Borderlands 4
In the game ‘Borderlands 3’, Amara was the character players could control. Throughout the game, her strength grew and she emerged as a potent hero within the Borderlands universe. She then joined forces with the Crimson Raiders, an esteemed group that includes other significant playable characters, where she continues to battle for the good side.
In the upcoming game, it’s been confirmed that Amara will join the cast from the creators of Borderlands 4. This suggests that she could have a significant impact on the game’s narrative. As for other playable Sirens in the series, their survival has been uncertain, so whether Amara survives until the end of Borderlands 4 is yet to be determined.
Ava
Siren Powers: Phaselock
- Notable appearance(s): Borderlands 3
In the game Borderlands 3, Ava emerged as a character who sparked much debate. Originally an apprentice to the playable Siren Maya from Borderlands 2, she was acquiring control over her Siren abilities during that time. Remarkably, Sirens can designate a successor, transferring their powers to the apprentice once they’ve passed away. This is why, upon Maya’s demise, Ava obtained her Phaselock abilities.
It’s speculated, not definitive yet, but Ava might be featured in Borderlands 4. At the conclusion of Borderlands 3, she joined the Crimson Raiders and harbors ambitious plans. She is focused on mastering and enhancing her abilities, especially following her mentor’s demise. Consequently, players may follow Ava as she continues this journey in the upcoming game.
Lilith
Siren Powers: Phasewalk
- Notable appearance(s): Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Borderlands 3
Among fans and the series itself, Lilith stands out as the most recognized Siren due to her numerous appearances and role as the initial playable one. She’s also widely considered the strongest Siren in the franchise, a reputation solidified by her incredible feat at the end of Borderlands 3, where she utilized all her power to prevent the moon Elpis from colliding with Pandora.
Following this significant accomplishment, Lilith’s future remained incredibly unclear. If viewers didn’t witness her death in the game, it’s highly improbable that developers will conclude her storyline within the franchise. However, there’s a possibility that she might reappear in Borderlands 4, yet the extent of her involvement remains uncertain.
Tannis
Siren Powers: Phaseshift
- Notable appearance(s): Borderlands, Borderlands 2, Borderlands 3
Patricia Tannis has been present since the initial Borderlands game, but it wasn’t until Borderlands 3 that she was unveiled as a Siren. This is due to the fact that Tannis didn’t start out as a Siren; instead, she gained her powers when Angel, a former enemy turned ally from Borderlands 2, was vanquished by the vault hunters. With Angel’s powers, Tannis was able to delve deeper into understanding Eridian technology and the cosmic origins of Sirens.
In the upcoming game Borderlands 4, it’s almost guaranteed that Tannis will make an appearance. It seems she might take on a guiding role for the fresh batch of Vault Hunters in the realm of Kairos. Although we don’t yet have all the details about the storyline of Borderlands 4, Tannis is someone who is both influential and powerful, making her an essential ally in a variety of situations.
Vex
Siren Powers: Phase Covenant, Phase Clone Minion, Phase Explosion, & Phase Phamiliar
- Notable appearance(s): Borderlands 4
Vex is the latest addition to the franchise as a playable character in Borderlands 4. Although the extent of her abilities isn’t fully revealed, her skill set appears to be potent and could potentially surpass those of previous playable Sirens.
In much the same vein as other Sirens, Vex finds herself drawn to the world of vault hunting, having mastered her powers. Her ability to summon a formidable Phase Tiger on the battlefield sets her apart. It’s expected that she will be pivotal in the game’s storyline and could potentially stand out among the other vault hunters as the central character.
Asha
Siren Power: Animal Control
- Notable appearance(s): Borderlands: The Fall of Fyrestone (comic book), Borderlands: Tannis and the Vault (comic book)
As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but feel a bit taken aback by Asha’s inclusion in Borderlands 4. Given that she originated from a comic series that seems somewhat uncertain in relation to the overall franchise, her presence feels rather unexpected. To be honest, she hasn’t been hinted at or mentioned in any of the mainline Borderlands games thus far, which suggests that, for now at least, she may not be a front-runner for Borderlands 4.
Although she might not initially seem fitting, given that if her tales are considered part of the Borderlands lore, she would still be alive during Borderlands 4, it’s worth considering her inclusion. Her abilities deviate from the norm for a Siren, as instead of possessing phase-based powers, she can manipulate animals and monsters. This is an extraordinary skill, albeit somewhat unconventional for a Siren. Furthermore, she has had dealings with notable characters like Tannis and Marcus, making her potential involvement hard to dismiss.
