Every Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles Playable Character Revealed So Far

24 years ago, I was just a young Padawan, eagerly awaiting the release of “Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles” on my PlayStation 1. Now, as an experienced Jedi Master, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement as Lucasfilm Games and Aspyr announce the remastered version for modern consoles and PC platforms.

24 years ago, LucasArts introduced the cooperative action game “Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles” on the PlayStation 1. In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Lucasfilm Games is teaming up with Aspyr to bring a remastered version of this classic game to modern consoles and PC platforms on January 23rd, 2025. This means that gamers who played the game as children will have the opportunity to revisit their childhood memories, while also introducing the game to their own kids for the first time. For those new to “Jedi Power Battles”, they may be uncertain about how to play or even which character to choose since the game features a diverse range of iconic prequel characters that players can embody.

Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles Characters Explained

In the beginning, “Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles” offered gamers a selection of nine characters to control. However, Aspyr has since expanded this lineup by including 13 new characters in the remastered version. Some of these fresh playable characters have already been unveiled, with further announcements anticipated prior to the game’s January launch. So far, the confirmed roster for “Jedi Power Battles” includes:

In the beginning, only some characters like those found in the original lineup of Jedi Power Battles were immediately accessible. However, characters such as Queen Amidala, Captain Panaka, Darth Maul, and Ki-Adi Mundi had to be earned by completing the game and achieving certain milestones. These original characters will feature optional visual differences compared to their versions from the 2000s, for example, Mace Windu wielding a purple lightsaber instead of blue one. Since Jedi Power Battles was launched before Attack of the Clones, Windu, Koon, and Gallia used lightsaber colors based on their comic book appearances at that time. New characters such as the Weequay will need to be unlocked within the game, while the Loader Droid can be unlocked using a cheat code.

Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles New Characters

The majority of the new playable characters are derived from species featured in ‘The Phantom Menace’ movie. Tusken Raiders, native to Tatooine, are frequently hostile and are known for attacking podracers during the Boonta Eve race. Weequays, characterized by their leathery skin, often appear as pirates or members of criminal organizations like the Hutt Cartel or the Hondo Ohnaka Gang. Ishi Tibs, a species resembling parrots, are also commonly seen among such criminal groups. Rodians, with their fly-like, reptilian appearance, share similar associations. However, Weequays, Ishi Tibs, and Rodians have all been observed serving the Rebel Alliance and the Jedi Order despite their criminal ties.

Initially, Jedi Master Ki-Adi Mundi was only available in the Sega Dreamcast edition of “Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles“.

The Gameplay of Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles

According to the trailer for the remastered version of “Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles,” it seems that Aspyr’s updated take on the game maintains the challenging yet enjoyable core mechanics of the original. Players will continue to have the option to quickly pick characters from the Jedi Council and team up with a friend to fight off the Trade Federation droid army on Naboo. Even though playing as a Jedi might be the preferred way to play, gamers can opt to control Queen Amidala armed with blasters or Captain Panaka instead if they prefer.

In Star Wars Episode 1: Jedi Power Battles, many of the new playable characters seem to primarily be recolored versions of the Jedi or blaster-wielding characters, based on the limited gameplay demonstrated in the trailer. The Tusken Raider and Rodian, for instance, utilize their staffs much like a Jedi would use a lightsaber; however, it remains unclear if they’ll retain the ability to deflect blaster shots. On the other hand, the B1 Battle Droids seem to mimic the citizens of Naboo by employing both their blasters and fists in combat.
