Every Studio Affected By Warner Bros. & Netflix Merger—What Deal Means, Explained

Netflix has officially announced it will purchase Warner Bros. in 2026 for $82.7 billion. This deal includes popular franchises like Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, and DC Comics, as well as all of Warner Bros.’ video game studios.

Warner Bros. is also a significant player in gaming. While several of its game studios are being bought by Netflix, it’s currently unclear if this will change how those studios create games.

The entertainment industry, including gaming, will be significantly impacted by this acquisition. With eight major studios under its umbrella, Warner Bros. Games will definitely feel the effects of Netflix taking control.

Every Studio Owned By Warner Bros. Games

Warner Bros. Games has eight studios, and Netflix will now own them all.

These game development teams are all different sizes and focus on various types of games. They’ve created major successes, from popular franchises like Mortal Kombat to award-winning series like Batman: Arkham. Now that these studios are joining Netflix, the gaming world will be eager to see what direction Netflix takes them.

Here’s a breakdown of every studio currently operating under the Warner Bros. Games banner:

Avalanche Software

I’ve been hearing a lot about Avalanche Software lately, especially since Hogwarts Legacy blew up! It turns out they’ve actually been making games since way back in ’95. Before Hogwarts, they did a bunch of Disney stuff in the 2010s – I remember playing Disney Infinity and Toy Story 3, both were pretty fun!

Everyone is eagerly anticipating a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy. The studio has confirmed they are prioritizing its development, and rumors about Hogwarts Legacy 2 have been circulating for a while.

NetherRealm Studios

When people talk about NetherRealm Studios, I immediately think of Mortal Kombat – it’s their biggest thing, hands down. They’re basically kings when it comes to fighting games, and their other series, Injustice, is just as awesome, letting you beat people up as DC superheroes and villains. It’s got that same hard-hitting, satisfying combat.

A new Mortal Kombat 3 movie is in the works, but the future of the Mortal Kombat games is unclear after Warner Bros. Games bought the studio. For years, fans have wondered what NetherRealm will create next – a sequel to the latest Mortal Kombat or a new Injustice game. Hopefully, the recent Netflix deal won’t cause any delays or changes to their plans.

Rocksteady Studios

The Batman: Arkham games revolutionized superhero gaming, and Rocksteady Studios was the developer behind this success. Before creating Arkham Asylum, Rocksteady was a relatively unknown studio, having only released the game Urban Chaos: Riot Response for PlayStation 2 and Xbox. However, their work on Batman quickly made them a leading name in the industry.

Rocksteady’s latest game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, received a mixed response from players, but the studio is still a major player in the industry and could easily bounce back. While there’s a lot of talk about a new Batman game potentially being made and set in Gotham, nothing is official. For now, Rocksteady is keeping its next project a secret.

TT Games

TT Games, also known as Traveller’s Tales, actually includes four different development teams, but they all collaborate as one company. These teams are:

  • Traveller’s Tales. Primary Division of TT Games.
  • TT Fusion. Division focused on porting games to handheld platforms.
  • TT Games Publishing. Division focused on handling publishing duties.
  • TT Odyssey. Mobile games developer.

If you haven’t heard, this studio is known for creating the incredibly popular LEGO video games that many of us grew up with. Their next game, LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, is expected to come out in 2026 and will likely be the first Warner Bros. game released after Netflix announced it was buying them.

WB Games Montreal

Warner Bros. Games Montréal has experienced some ups and downs lately. They recently helped Rocksteady with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and before that created Gotham Knights, a game connected to the Arkham series that wasn’t very well received.

Even with recent changes, the team seems to still be developing projects within the DC universe. Rumors indicate they’re now creating a large-scale, ongoing live-service game based on DC Comics. While details are still unknown, fans are hoping it will be more successful than other superhero live-service games, especially when compared to Marvel’s Avengers.

WB Games Boston

Warner Bros. Games Boston is famous for creating online role-playing games, including popular titles like Dungeons & Dragons Online and The Lord of the Rings Online.

WB Games New York

WB Games New York helps create the online features and communities you see in video games, but they don’t actually make the games themselves. They partner with other developers to add those online elements.

WB Games San Francisco

This is a division of Warner Bros. Games focused on creating games for mobile devices, featuring popular franchises like Harry Potter and DC Comics.

What Is The Warner Bros. Games & Netflix Merger?

Netflix has completed its purchase of Warner Bros. and its companies for around $82.7 billion, making it one of the biggest entertainment deals ever. This changes the media world dramatically, bringing many famous movies, shows, and games under the Netflix brand and showing the company is seriously expanding into traditional entertainment like film and TV, as well as gaming.

This agreement gives Netflix the rights to a huge collection of popular franchises, including Harry Potter and all of DC Comics. It also includes Warner Bros.’ movies and TV shows, animated content, HBO programs, and production studios worldwide.

Importantly, this deal includes Warner Bros. Games, adding all eight of its game development studios – and the popular franchises they create – to Netflix’s expanding collection of games. Now, Netflix owns the teams behind well-known titles like Mortal Kombat, Batman: Arkham, LEGO games, and games set in Middle-earth, among others.
