This article reveals major plot details for both Dragon Ball Super and the new series, Dragon Ball DAIMA. Be warned: it includes spoilers, even for parts of Dragon Ball Super that haven’t been shown in the anime yet.
Whenever a new Dragon Ball series is announced, fans always get really excited. One of the first things they wonder is what new transformations will appear in the latest installment. While transformations weren’t a major part of Dragon Ball at the beginning, the introduction of Super Saiyan completely changed the direction of the story.
Beyond the exciting battles between heroes and villains, it’s also interesting to consider what characters actually do with the Dragon Balls once they collect them. While the search for them often starts with simple wishes – like Bulma wanting a date – the wishes themselves can range from genuinely helpful to surprisingly silly and over the top.
Earth Dragon Balls in Dragon Ball Super
Most Wishes Relate to Ordinary Things
In the story of Dragon Ball Super, after the events of Dragon Ball Z but before the series begins, Pilaf and his gang used the Dragon Balls to wish for their youth to be restored. This turns them into children, a nod to a similar storyline in Dragon Ball GT and is how they first appear in Dragon Ball Super.
Throughout the anime series, the Dragon Balls are used on several occasions. In the Battle of Gods story arc, Goku and the other Saiyans used Shenron to learn about the Super Saiyan God. Later, when searching for the Super Dragon Balls, Beerus dismissed Shenron because he couldn’t provide the information, which some might consider a unique kind of wish. Additionally, Gohan later asked Shenron to heal his daughter Pan when she had a high fever.
You really are a useless lizard, aren’t you? Just go away.
— Beerus
You won’t believe this, but in the Future Trunks timeline, Pilaf actually made a wish to be young again! It’s only in the manga, but it backfired hilariously – he and his gang were turned into babies! Seriously, it’s the same old story with Pilaf – he just can’t seem to get a wish right!
In the “Frieza Revival” arc of Dragon Ball Super, which adapted the Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection of ‘F’ movie, Sorbet used a wish to bring Frieza back to life. He had two wishes remaining, but Shu and Mai quickly used them – Shu wished for money, and Mai playfully wished for ice cream, arguably the best wish ever made in the series. We can expect even more wishes to be made once the manga continues (hopefully).
Namek Dragon Balls in Dragon Ball Super
Used a Few Times, Especially in the Moro Arc
The Namekian Dragon Balls have been used more often in the series than the ones from Earth. We saw them used during the fight with Beerus when Kibito Kai split into Shin and Kibito. Later, during the battle with Golden Frieza, Moori used them to bring Piccolo back to life, as Goku and the others asked.
The upcoming Moro Saga begins with Cranberry and Moro using the Namek Dragon Balls to heal themselves and free all the prisoners from the Galactic Patrol Prison (though Moro later killed Cranberry after regaining his strength). Once the saga concluded, the Namekians used Porunga to bring back to life everyone Moro had killed.

In a special extra chapter at the end of the first book, called “Warriors from Universe 6,” Goku used the Dragon Balls to bring King Kai’s planet back to how it was.
Super Dragon Balls in Dragon Ball Super
Zamasu Summoned Super Shenron a Few Times
In Dragon Ball Super, the incredibly powerful Super Dragon Balls are introduced, allowing users to summon the wish-granting Super Shenron. Whis used these to restore Earth in Universe 6, bringing back its people and creatures (though maybe not the dinosaurs!). Later, Android 17 used a wish to revive all the universes that had been destroyed during the Tournament of Power.
In one timeline, Zamasu used the Super Dragon Balls to swap bodies with Monaka, and later with Goku (this event only appears in the manga). In the future timeline, Zamasu achieved immortality and, along with Goku Black, destroyed the Super Dragon Balls to prevent anyone from reversing their actions.
Cereal Dragon Balls
So Far, Only Used in Dragon Ball Super
Planet Cereal possesses its own set of Dragon Balls, which have been used both before and during the Super saga. Long ago, Monaito granted Bardock a wish that saved Goku and Raditz. More recently, Granolah wished to become the strongest in Universe 7, and Elec later wished for Gas to surpass everyone as the new strongest warrior.
Earth Dragon Balls in Dragon Ball DAIMA
The Series Kicks Off with Gomah’s Wish
The new series, Dragon Ball DAIMA, starts with King Gomah using the Dragon Balls to turn everyone who helped defeat Majin Buu back into children – essentially making the Dragon Team young again (and even younger for those who were already kids, like Trunks and Goten). The series also explains that Shenron grants the Dragon Team three wishes because he considers them valuable and frequent users of the Dragon Balls.
Demon Realm Dragon Balls
So Far, Only Used in Dragon Ball Daima
Dragon Ball Daima features a journey to the Demon Realm where Goku and the heroes search for the Demon Realm’s Dragon Balls. Their goal is to summon Porunga, restore themselves to their original ages, and ultimately defeat the Demon King Gomah. After collecting the Dragon Balls, Glorio uses their power to return Goku and Vegeta to their full strength, enabling them to defeat Gomah in his massive, three-eyed form.
Dragon Ball DAIMA and Dragon Ball Super are available to stream on Crunchyroll.
