Techland has announced a new version of Dying Light: The Beast called the Restored Land Edition. The biggest change is that players, as Kyle Crane, can now actually repair the game world, and their actions will have lasting effects. Considering Dying Light: The Beast came out about six months ago (in September 2026), this large update and new edition is unexpected, but a great addition for fans.
The complete edition, Dying Light: The Beast Restored Land, is out now, and there’s also free content for the original Dying Light game. Players who already own Dying Light: The Beast can get a free upgrade to Dying Light: The Beast Restored Land. This upgrade includes the new Restored Land experience, plus all previously released downloadable content.
The Restored Land Experience
Restored Land offers a unique, persistent world in Dying Light: The Beast where zombies and loot don’t respawn. But it’s more than just a change – eliminating all zombies in a region actually rebuilds the map and brings life back to the post-apocalyptic world. As areas are restored, survivors begin to return, though it’s a tough undertaking. This mode is designed for solo players and features harsher survival conditions, like managing hunger and limited flashlight batteries. Resources are scarcer in shops and containers, and activities like Convoys, Dark Zones, and Hives can only be completed once. While challenging, you can adjust the difficulty. For the ultimate test, a ‘One Life’ option is available – but be warned, dying will erase your entire save file.
If you finish the ‘The Beast’s Restored Land’ mode in Dying Light playing on ‘One Life’ difficulty, you’ll unlock a secret reward that the developers, Techland, are keeping a mystery. It’s up to you to discover what it is!
Alongside this titular new experience, there is a plethora of new content:
- Roadkill Rallies
- Leaderboards
- 36 New Quests
- 7 New Achievements
- New Narrative Encounters
- New Finishers
- New Hidden Stashes
- Online Co-Op Improvements

Roadkill Rallies
Okay, so in Dying Light: The Beast, there are these things called Roadkill Rallies, and they’re seriously intense. Basically, you’re racing against the clock while trying to smash as many zombies as possible. You can play them solo or with friends, and the goal is to hit a certain zombie kill count and reach the finish line before time runs out. If you manage to get gold on all of them, you unlock a sweet new vehicle called the Roadkiller. It’s a fun challenge, but you really have to optimize your route and be quick!
Co-op Improvements
Techland, the team behind the game, knows players enjoy taking on zombies with friends, so they’ve made some improvements to enhance that experience. These include a new Ping System that simplifies pointing out enemies, items, and locations, as well as a feature to easily add other players to your friend list using your online history. They’ve also made adjustments to reward cooperative play in Dying Light: The Beast, like offering better loot when playing with others.
Hidden Stashes Are Back
To offer players a break from the intense action in Dying Light: The Beast, Techland is reintroducing hidden stashes. These are optional, more laid-back challenges where you’ll find a clue – like a map fragment or drawing – and need to solve a puzzle. Though they can be a bit challenging and are scattered throughout the game, completing these stashes is worthwhile. You’ll earn valuable items that could even save your life, so be sure to look for them!
There are 5 of them hidden in the world.
Juicy Zombie Fights
Dying Light: The Beast has always been a thrilling and often shocking game, with its realistic zombie takedowns. The latest updates build on this, making encounters with the most powerful infected even more rewarding and refining those fights. Even common zombie groups are more diverse now, adding some variety to combat, and the way zombies appear in the world has been improved overall. These are just some of the changes you’ll find.
- Tighter dodge windows
- Improved damage windows and other enhancements
- Based on player feedback, there is a higher level of finisher frequency in NG+ levels
- Improved final hit feedback when killing Infected
- Enhanced enemy pain noises and reactions (which were already really good)
- Audio enhancements for key sounds, like breaking wooden crates
- And MORE QOL enhancements.
Dying Light: The Beast Restored Land is a Free Upgrade to Those Who Already Own the Game
For new players jumping into Dying Light: The Beast, all the enhancements are available in a single package called Dying Light: The Beast Restored Land Edition. If you already own the game, you’ll get all these additions and improvements as a free update. Techland previously did something similar with Dying Light 2 Stay Human Reloaded Edition, which was a new purchase option but a free upgrade for those who already owned the standard game. That edition included the base game, the Firearms Update, the Bloody Ties DLC, and various visual and gameplay improvements.
With many games now focused on selling in-game extras and the industry facing financial challenges, Techland continues to prioritize its community. Their long-standing support for the original Dying Light, their willingness to innovate with Dying Light 2, and their ongoing success with zombie games like Dying Light: The Beast demonstrate their passion for game development and their players.
