A fresh “Evil Dead” movie is on its way, and its director has clear goals for it. Sébastien Vaniček plans to leave viewers feeling drained following their horror experience.
The “Evil Dead” movie series, famed for its horror genre, made its debut with the original “Evil Dead,” directed by Sam Raimi, back in 1981. This initial release was followed by four more films: “Evil Dead II” (1987), “Army of Darkness” (1992), a 2013 remake simply titled “Evil Dead,” and the upcoming “Evil Dead Rise” in 2023. The success of the original film led to the creation of the TV series “Ash vs Evil Dead,” which ran for three seasons, as well as video game adaptations. This timeless horror classic has been widely appreciated, explaining its longevity over more than four decades. Currently, a new movie is being developed, and its director already has a clear vision in mind.
Vaniaček, who made his directorial debut with the horror film “Infested“, is set to direct the upcoming “Evil Dead Burn” movie. In a chat with “Variety“, the filmmaker expressed his desire for the reboot to surpass “Infested” in terms of intensity and originality. The plot of “Infested“, Vaniaček’s first feature, revolves around Kaleb, a young man who unwittingly releases a lethal spider infestation after bringing home an exotic arachnid. As the spiders multiply and grow, the townsfolk are trapped and forced to fight for their lives. In his approach to storytelling, Vaniaček aimed to create a “shocking, immersive experience that hits viewers hard”. He further explained that he wanted to push the boundaries with “Infested” to give audiences an unforgettable, visceral experience.
I’d like the audience to depart from the theater feeling utterly exhausted, as if they’ve just completed a deeply moving and intense emotional voyage.
During the same interview, Vaniček expressed admiration for actress Souheila Yacoub. He shared that he is a fan of her work, particularly on stage productions. He felt she was ideally suited for the role in question, stating, “She possesses a unique blend of physicality and emotional depth in her performances – the raw, intense presence I sought for this film.” It is worth noting that Yacoub is a Swiss actress who made her acting debut in the French soap opera “Plus belle la vie” in 2016. Since then, she has appeared in various films, including “Climax” (2018), “The Salt of Tears” (2020), “A Brighter Tomorrow” (2021), “Rise” (2022), “Making Of” (2023), and upcoming releases like “Dune: Part Two” (2024), “The Balconettes” (2024), and “Planet B” (2024).
Sébastien Vaniček Is The Perfect Directorial Choice For Evil Dead Burn
Vaniček’s participation in the reboot of “Evil Dead” is generating anticipation due to his past film, “Infested.” Known for its nail-biting claustrophobia and authentic horror elements, “Infested” has earned high praise. This successful project opened doors for Vaniček, leading him to opportunities like “Evil Dead Burn.” Given his previous achievements, the skilled director is well-equipped to create a movie that combines intensity with emotional depth. He also expressed his desire for the story to be self-contained yet respectful of the “Evil Dead” series. This balance should appeal to both new and longtime fans of the franchise.
Yacoub’s potential for the role is clear. With her history in rhythmic gymnastics, she brings the endurance and physical expressiveness required for a strenuous part often seen in the Evil Dead series. Moreover, she has emotional depth and relevant experience, making her an excellent fit for the role. In the psychological horror film Climax, she played Lou, a dancer whose party turned into a harrowing nightmare after their drinks were laced with LSD, causing chaos and terror. Critics lauded her ability to portray fear and vulnerability under extreme conditions. Fans can expect her emotional intensity and physical prowess in Evil Dead Rise.
Evil Dead Burn will hit theaters on July 24, 2026.
