Saber Interactive, creators of the highly praised asymmetric survival horror game “Evil Dead: The Game,” recently shared some less-than-satisfactory updates. However, fans were already braced for such news. Released in 2022 by Saber and published by Boss Team Games,
The terrifying horror series known as “Evil Dead” was born from the mind of Sam Raimi, director of Spider-Man. So far, it has spawned five movies and a TV show called “Ash vs Evil Dead.” True to Raimi’s signature style, “Evil Dead: The Game” carries on the themes of grisly decay and solitude that are typical in American Southern settings. This has earned it a spot on the list of top Southern Gothic horror games, alongside titles like “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” “Alone in the Dark,” and Telltale’s “The Walking Dead.
In a blog post, Saber announced they’ve initiated the process to take down Evil Dead: The Game from various digital marketplaces, such as Steam, Epic Games, and PlayStation. Fortunately, the developers clarified that the game’s servers will continue to operate for those who already own it. Interestingly, other games are also being removed from storefronts next year, like Outer Terror, Daggerhood, and Gravity Duck, which were recently delisted by Xbox. However, at this moment, Evil Dead: The Game still appears on the Xbox Store.
Evil Dead: The Game Is Being Delisted but Servers Will Remain Online
Fans of “Evil Dead: The Game” expressed concern when they noticed it vanishing from digital storefronts recently, and took to social media to voice their fears that the game might be discontinued without any prior notice. However, it was reassuring for them to learn that Saber Interactive is maintaining the game for regular players to access. Although fans can still play the game, there’s a sense of sadness within the community, with many considering “Evil Dead: The Game” as one of the best asymmetric horror games ever made.
16-bit game titled “Retro Realms: Ash vs the Evil Dead” is ensuring that the “Evil Dead” intellectual property remains vibrant within the video gaming industry. Alongside Ash Williams’ appearances in “Dead by Daylight“, the series is experiencing ongoing success in both the cinematic world and among fans. The recent standalone film, “Evil Dead Rise“, released in 2023, was a major hit with horror enthusiasts, paving the way for another upcoming installment, “Evil Dead Burn“, scheduled to premiere in 2026. Notably, Bruce Campbell has expressed potential conditions for rejoining the “Evil Dead” franchise, sparking excitement among fans who eagerly await his return with chainsaw in hand.
