As a long-time fan of Arkane Studios and their critically acclaimed games like Dishonored and Prey, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and nostalgia upon hearing Raphael Colantonio’s latest tease about WolfEye Studios’ next game. Having followed his journey from Arkane Austin to the formation of WolfEye, I’ve been eagerly waiting for something that would scratch my immersive sim itch ever since the release of Weird West, which while a fantastic game in its own right, didn’t quite hit the mark in terms of what I was yearning for.

The current leader of WolfEye Studios, who was previously a developer at Arkane Studios and played key roles in creating games like Dishonored and Prey, believes that fans of these titles will be excited about the studio’s upcoming game. Raphael Colantonio, one of the original creators of Dishonored and a founder of Arkane Austin, also served as the creative director of Prey before leaving the studio in 2017. In 2019, two years after his departure, Colantonio returned with news of his new venture, WolfEye Studios, and its inaugural project – an isometric western role-playing game called Weird West.

As a dedicated fan, I was thrilled when Dinga Bakaba of Arkane Lyon unveiled their captivating new game, the third-person action-adventure title “Marvel’s Blade,” at the 2023 Game Awards. However, my excitement was short-lived as news broke several months later about the unfortunate and perplexing closure of Arkane Austin, along with Tango Gameworks ( creators of ‘Hi-Fi Rush’), Alpha Dog Games, and Roundhouse Studios, within the Xbox family. After this setback, the talented mind behind it all, Colantonio, poured his energy into “Weird West.” This game, known for its distinct art style and immersive role-playing game mechanics, garnered significant acclaim upon its 2022 release, even though it represented a significant departure from Colantonio’s previous work at Arkane.

Approximately two years after the launch of “Weird West”, Raphael Colantonio, the creator behind WolfEye, hinted on Twitter that they will soon unveil details about their upcoming game within a few days. He further stated that the characteristics of this new game would appeal to fans who enjoyed his previous first-person immersive games such as “Dishonored” and “Prey”. This suggestion indicates a possible shift in direction for WolfEye Studios away from the isometric RPG style they employed in “Weird West”.

WolfEye Studios’ Next Game Could Be More Like Dishonored And Prey

Colantonio explicitly referenced first-person games like Dishonored and Prey, indicating that WolfEye’s upcoming game will likely be a first-person title. It remains unclear whether the new game will build upon Weird West’s RPG aspects or revert to Colantonio’s immersive sim style. This news has left some Dishonored and Prey enthusiasts disappointed due to their less than favorable reception towards Weird West, an isometric RPG. However, Colantonio aims to win back fans of immersive sim games who may have found Weird West’s deeper RPG elements and top-down viewpoint less appealing.

Colantonio hints that WolfEye is preparing for a major unveiling in the near future, so followers should watch the studio’s social media channels closely for any fresh previews or updates. On the other hand, the fate of the Dishonored and Prey series remains uncertain, given the sad closure of Arkane Austin by Xbox earlier this year and its surviving sibling studio being occupied with Marvel’s Blade. It might take some time before we hear news about a new Dishonored or Prey game. Here’s hoping that WolfEye’s upcoming game offers an engaging experience for fans of immersive sim games.
