Fans of “Ghost in the Shell” can look forward to catching the new anime series from studio Science SARU at a Japanese exhibition scheduled for the year 2026!

On the 5th of February, I’m beyond excited about the massive announcement from the franchise! This isn’t just any ordinary event; it’s being billed as the first-ever “cross-series” exhibition in Japan for our beloved franchise. Translation? A plethora of titles from across the series will be showcased!

Complete Anime Series Exhibition

Entitled “Ghost in the Shell Complete Anime Retrospective“, this event is scheduled to take place in Tokyo during the year 2026, marking the 30th anniversary of the original 1995 film. Here’s a sneak peek at the main visual:

Confirmed works to be featured include:

  • Ghost in the Shell (1995, Mamoru Oshii)
  • Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (2002, Kenji Kamiyama)
  • Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (2004, Mamoru Oshii)
  • Ghost in the Shell: ARISE (2013, Kazuchika Kise)
  • Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 (2020, Kenji Kamiyama & Shinji Aramaki)
  • Upcoming TV Anime by Science SARU (2026)

Since neither a launch date for the 2026 series nor the opening times for the exhibition have been announced yet, it remains uncertain whether viewers can catch the series before its television debut, but chances are they will.

Upcoming Ghost in the Shell Anime

So far, we don’t have a lot of details about the 2026 anime, but here’s what we know: It’s scheduled to be released in 2026 and Studio Science SARU, known for “Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken,” is handling the animation. The production team also includes Bandai Namco Filmworks, Production I.G, and Kodansha. Since Science Saru was bought by Toho, it’s likely that Toho, the distribution company, will have some involvement in the distribution as well.

Back when the anime was first announced, Bandai Namco also disclosed that there would be a special exhibition honoring the works of manga artist Masamune Shirow during Spring 2025. However, no additional details regarding this event have been revealed since then.

Excitedly peering into the future, I can’t help but ponder about the intriguing anime title that goes by Ghost in the Shell. The buzz is that it might be a fresh take or revival of an old classic, but as of now, no official word has been uttered. What’s more, the team behind this series, the ones who will bring our favorite characters to life, remains a mystery for now.
