Summary
- World of Warcraft is introducing a new UI banner for easy swapping between Classic Era game modes.
- Player options include Season of Discovery, Hardcore, and 20th anniversary realms.
- The feature aims to streamline the process, making it simpler to transition between game modes.
In simpler terms, the game World of Warcraft is introducing a new user interface notice that enables players to swiftly and conveniently switch between different Classic Era settings as they play. This UI element resembles the character selection screen banner found in contemporary World of Warcraft, making it easier to alter the Classic Era game modes with minimal hassle.
Currently, you can enjoy playing World of Warcraft Classic in numerous ways, which have been categorized into two main groups: progression and Classic Era. The progression mode is set to transition from WoW: Cataclysm Classic to Mists of Pandaria soon, while the Classic Era offers a multitude of choices such as Season of Discovery, Hardcore, and realms celebrating the 20th anniversary.
It appears that World of Warcraft is introducing a new system allowing fans to switch between various Classic Era game modes more easily. A recent update on the Season of Discovery Phase 8 Public Test Realm introduced a new banner at character selection, featuring options for Modes, Shop, and Menu. Similar to its current version, which includes buttons for realms, limited-time modes like Plunderstorm, and the Campsites customization feature added in WoW Patch 11.1, players can now use this new menu to toggle between original Classic Era, Hardcore, Season of Discovery, Anniversary realms, and their respective Hardcore versions.
Game Mode Button in World of Warcraft Classic Era
In the current version of the game, it’s technically feasible to alter your game mode, but the process isn’t as seamless or intuitive. To switch your game mode, fans need to locate the “Change Realm” button, pick either the Seasonal, Anniversary, or Classic Era tab, then opt for their World of Warcraft server, with Hardcore realms hidden within those sections. Another option is to log out and select your desired game mode via the Battle.net launcher instead.

To clarify, this function isn’t compatible with progression realms at present because they demand a distinct setup from the Classic Era. Nevertheless, it might incorporate additional possibilities that were part of the Classic Era down the line, such as the successor to Season of Discovery, or even an official Classic+. As for the future, it’s uncertain how things will shift when some 20th anniversary realms start transitioning into The Burning Crusade towards the end of 2025 or beginning of 2026.
It’s important to note that Blizzard hasn’t officially revealed this new feature yet, so there’s a chance it might be altered before it’s rolled out. However, considering its initial appearance, there’s a strong possibility it could debut as soon as the Season of Discovery Phase 8 launch for World of Warcraft Classic on April 8.
