In an exciting turn of events, “World of Warcraft” has left fans in awe by revealing a wealth of details regarding the upcoming Player Housing feature. This includes the fundamental principles that guide its design, how players can acquire and visit houses, as well as the two zones where Neighborhoods will be established upon its release. With an emphasis on limitless creativity, strong social ties, and widespread usage, “World of Warcraft” is embarking on a promising, long-lasting adventure with Player Housing.
At the first “Warcraft” Direct event scheduled for November 2024, it was announced that Player Housing would be introduced in the “Midnight” expansion for “World of Warcraft”. While specifics have been scarce, “World of Warcraft” executive producer Holly Longdale hinted at more information being shared about Player Housing in a recent “WoW” State of the Game letter.
Currently, Blizzard has unveiled a sneak peek at an intriguing new feature. The essence of Player Housing lies upon three main aspects: Freedom to Customize, Social Interaction, and Enduring Adventure. Combined, this design strategy aims to empower players to customize and decorate their homes to their heart’s content using a straightforward yet powerful interface, and to share these experiences with others in a continually growing, dynamic system that will persist as long as the game, World of Warcraft, continues.
Pillars of Player Housing in World of Warcraft
- Boundless Self-Expression
- Deeply Social
- Long-Lasting Journey
Upon its release, players will encounter two distinct housing zones: one for the Alliance, modeled after Elwynn Forest, Westfall, and Duskwood; and another for the Horde, influenced by Durotar, its coastline, and Azshara to the north. As additional regions are introduced later, “World of Warcraft” has chosen to initiate with these two zones to avoid spreading the player base too thin, and to ensure each zone receives proper focus. Inside each instance, up to 50 houses can be constructed in Public Neighborhoods, accessible to all, or Private Neighborhoods, which are designed and managed by guilds or other communities.
Initial Housing Zones in World of Warcraft
- Alliance – Elwynn Forest, with touches of Westfall and Duskwood
- Horde – Durotar, with touches of Azshara and the Durotar coastline
Players can anticipate a wealth of customization options for their homes within the game. Over 1000 unique customizations will be found within the game itself, while some additional items will be available for purchase from the cash shop, similar to how other collectibles are handled. Furthermore, although Housing is currently only accessible in Human and Orc neighborhoods, the decor options draw inspiration from the cultures of Azeroth as well as expansions throughout the World of Warcraft universe.
In the game’s structure, houses and decorative items within the Warbands system are interconnected across all characters. This means that while an Alliance character cannot buy a house in the Horde zone, or vice versa, they can still access and utilize houses built on the same account, regardless of faction. Additionally, housing in this game will not involve expensive fees, lotteries, or the automatic demolition of houses as seen in games like Final Fantasy 14. In other words, any player who desires a house in World of Warcraft can acquire one, regardless of their level of interaction with it.
