TopMob has learned that a new game based on the Alien franchise is back in development.
The upcoming Alien game is a single-player survival horror experience where you’ll try to stay alive on a crumbling space station. Currently in development, it focuses on evading both deadly Xenomorphs and highly trained special ops forces. One source described the gameplay as being similar to “Shadow of the Tomb Raider,” but with the added threat of the iconic Alien creatures.
This game has been in development since at least 2020, going through several names and even being reported on by TopMob in November 2022. Originally known as “Marathon” and other codenames TopMob kept secret to protect their sources, the project was thought to be cancelled for a few years. Though it changed developers multiple times, recent documents from earlier this year confirm that Eidos Montreal is now the studio working on it.
The game will blend action, jumping challenges, and puzzles. You’ll need to be sneaky, manage your supplies carefully, and think your way through obstacles – from fixing broken machines to deciphering codes. Battles won’t be simple either; enemies are designed with smart AI that will learn from your actions and change their strategies.
Game documents reveal at least three characters. The protagonist, Aubrey, is an engineer skilled in using tools like grappling hooks and magnetic boots. Ryuzo is another new character who operates from a space station and appears to be a villain. The third character is Ripley 8, famously portrayed by Sigourney Weaver in the films. The team hopes Weaver might reprise the role for the game, but discussions are preliminary and nothing is confirmed yet.
The game is currently budgeted at under $75 million, which is an increase from the $30 million allocated a few years ago. It’s planned to launch on all major gaming platforms in 2028. However, developers stress that the game is still in the early stages of production, so the release date and other details are subject to change. Despite this, sources indicate that development is progressing well.
Neither Eidos Montreal nor Embracer responded to multiple requests for comment on this story.
