TopMob reports that Ubisoft hasn’t canceled ‘Beyond Good & Evil 2,’ a game that’s been in development for a very long time, despite recent cancellations of other projects.
After nearly 17 years of development – specifically 17 years, 7 months, and 22 days as of today – Beyond Good & Evil 2 is now known as the longest-running game still in development. It was first announced on May 30, 2008, and fans are still waiting for its release.
The game has been in development for a significant amount of time – roughly 8 or 9 years, starting around 2017.
Even with a troubled history and a long development process, Ubisoft believes there’s still potential in Beyond Good & Evil 2. Despite recent company changes that led to the cancellation of six games – including the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Remake – sources at TopMob report that the game is currently still being worked on, for now.
In 2023, the development of Beyond Good & Evil 2 faced challenges as Ubisoft Montpellier was investigated due to a high number of developers experiencing burnout and needing to take sick leave.
Reports suggest that Ubisoft has spent over $500 million developing the game, due to frequent changes, delays, and a long development process. However, the company currently believes the investment is worthwhile.
It’s hard to say when Beyond Good & Evil 2 will finally come out, and it might still be several years away. What are your thoughts on the game still being in development after all this time? Share your opinions in the comments and join the conversation on the official TopMob Discord!
