On Wednesday, BioWare announced some changes which unfortunately led to at least several dozens of employees being let go. There’s growing concern among the remaining staff that further job cuts may follow.
Following the company’s announcement that they didn’t need help from the entire studio on Dragon Age: The Veilguard, it was revealed through various sources that the company had laid off several employees, regardless of their experience or length of service. This was further corroborated when the game’s lead writer, Trick Weekes, expressed his search for a new job on Bluesky. Soon after, narrative editor Ryan Cormier also announced his termination. Many others followed suit by posting about their departure from the company.
There’s a growing anxiety among employees at BioWare due to the likelihood of further layoffs in the near future and beyond. One team member expressed their belief, stating that they “anticipate it may occur.
“It feels like were waiting for another wave,” said another.
It’s clear that as work progresses on the upcoming Mass Effect game, there’s also a self-assessment happening within the team to identify areas for improvement in the development process going forward.
Contact has been made with EA and BioWare regarding the reported layoffs and rumors of further cuts within their studio. If we receive a response, we’ll update this article accordingly.
On January 22, EA published a preliminary Q3 fiscal year 2025 earnings report. In this report, they disclosed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard failed to meet internal player expectations by about half, leading to a 17% decrease in the company’s stock value the following day. This decline resulted in approximately $6 billion being wiped off the company’s market worth.
