Eidos-Montreal wants to bring back Deus Ex, and it’s been looking for ways to do so.
During our examination of the latest job cuts at the Montreal studio, it emerged that the company had been actively seeking collaboration with outside partners and publishers on a new Deus Ex project.
Based on reports from various reliable sources familiar with the studio’s strategies, Eidos-Montreal frequently proposed a new game, yet these pitches have not resulted in any binding agreements with publishers so far.
According to one report, several potential collaborators held the opinion that the series was deemed too specialized or narrow in scope at present. Another source indicated that following some discussions, it appeared that publishing houses are currently unwilling to shoulder the financial burden associated with the Deus Ex brand.
There isn’t a lot of information available on the specifics of this upcoming Deus Ex game. It has been mentioned that the idea for the game possesses an appealing and unique quality, but it seems it doesn’t quite live up to the usual anticipations or quality standards expected from a Deus Ex title.
This newly developed game differs from the one previously in development for two years, which was terminated by Embracer Group in early 2024 as part of their corporate restructuring. Importantly, it’s important to note that the cancellation was not due to disagreements over the pitched game, but rather unrelated to the layoffs. TopMob is currently investigating and gathering more details about the circumstances leading to the 75 job losses.
