Ubisoft is developing a new turn-based tactics game set in the same universe as Rainbow 6 Siege.
The upcoming Rainbow 6 Siege game is anticipated to be launched within the next one to two years, with plans to release it on modern consoles such as the Xbox Series S|X, PlayStation 5, and personal computers (PC), and potentially on the Nintendo Switch 2 as well.
As a devoted fan, I’ve gathered insights from reliable sources about the upcoming game, and here’s what I’ve learned: It appears we’ll be experiencing a top-down view reminiscent of Diablo 4 or XCOM. You’ll find yourself commanding Rainbow Six Siege operators in this strategic setting. One source likened it to watching an enhanced version of XCOM gameplay, complete with cinematic cutscenes and more. So, if you’re curious about the feel, just take a peek at some XCOM gameplay – it’s a close comparison!
The gameplay structure is often compared to that of Rainbow 6 Siege, as it involves choosing various characters with distinct abilities for objectives like storming structures, rescuing hostages, and so forth.
The estimated duration of the gameplay is roughly between 25 and 30 hours, contingent upon a player’s ability, but this might alter if elements like game content, cinematics, etc., are reduced, as suggested.
While the future of Ubisoft’s joint venture with Tencent remains uncertain, some team members involved in the project speculate that it might be transferred to the new business since it pertains to the Rainbow Six intellectual property. However, other staff members have expressed uncertainty about the matter, stating they are not yet aware of any decisions.
Among Ubisoft’s most successful intellectual properties is Rainbow 6, with Rainbow Six Siege boasting more than 50 million players worldwide. However, the latest main installment in the series, Rainbow 6 Extraction, did not live up to Ubisoft’s internal targets and support for the game was gradually phased out.
Wouldn’t it be exciting to imagine a tactical shooter game in the style of XCOM, but with the Rainbow Six series twist? Share your thoughts below in the comments or on TopMob forum.
