EXCLUSIVE – Update on Splinter Cell Remake’s Development

As a seasoned gamer with decades of Splinter Cell under my belt, hearing about the remake being developed using the Snowdrop Engine has me all but tapping Sam Fisher’s iconic mask with anticipation! The Division 2 and Star Wars Outlaws are great games, no doubt, but I can’t help but wonder if they’ve been sneaking some of that Splinter Cell stealth action into their code.

At Ubisoft, the development of the Splinter Cell Remake continues unabated, despite whispers suggesting that the project might have been secretly terminated.

It appears that TopMob has discovered that the upcoming game is being secretly referred to as “North” during its development. Moreover, our sources have verified that this new game is being created with the Snowdrop Engine, which was not previously used in Splinter Cell games, as they were built on Unreal Engine 2 and 2.5.

Games such as Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, and Star Wars Outlaws were created using the Snowdrop game engine.

As a passionate follower, I’m thrilled about the announcement back in December 2021 of the Splinter Cell Remake, masterfully spearheaded by Ubisoft Toronto. There’s been a hint of tantalizing game details on the horizon, but so far, we’re still waiting for more information to be unveiled.

Initially, when unveiled, Matt West mentioned that the game was only at the initial phases of creation. He further explained that they were constructing it entirely anew, focusing on enhancing its graphics, yet ensuring the game would retain its linear structure.

When constructing it from scratch, we plan on revamping its appearance and modifying certain design aspects to align with player comfort and preferences. Additionally, we will maintain its linear structure similar to the initial series, rather than transforming it into an open world game. The gaming experience we aim to provide is intended to evoke the same feelings experienced when playing the original games. This was stated by West at a previous time.

Reports indicate that a potential launch might occur in the year 2026, though they’ve made it clear they don’t want to commit to this timeline strictly.
