Lieutenant Junior Grade Rutherford is grappling with issues regarding his Occulus, a cybernetic device that boosts his vision, sharpens his mental abilities, but also alters his behavior on occasion.

To clarify, Rutherford underwent an implant procedure as part of an attempt to erase his memory following his involvement in an illicit endeavor while attending Starfleet Academy. This implant, however, tends to malfunction at the most inopportune moments, as demonstrated in “Fissure Quest.” His Occulus unexpectedly discharged a blast of plasma over the table, narrowly missing Lieutenant Junior Grade Boimler. Fortunately, he managed to avoid serious injury by quickly ducking, leaving only his hair slightly scorched instead.

After Boimler tells his companions that he’s okay, Mariner playfully remarks that she wouldn’t consider harming Boimler because he’s the only one of his kind left among them.

Will William Boimler Return?

As a die-hard Lower Decks fan, it’s likely you’d catch my nod to William “Boim” Boimler, the transporter clone of Bradward Boimler. Remember way back in season 3 when we learned that the original Boimle had perished due to neurocine gas seeping into his quarters on the U.S.S. Titan? That’s the guy I’m talking about!

However, what the audience witnessed wasn’t entirely accurate. In reality, William Boimler got recruited by Starfleet’s covert division, Section 31. This secretive organization orchestrated his apparent demise, launching his body in a torpedo into space, only to retrieve it and resurrect him. Thus, William Boimler received the distinctive black combadge worn exclusively by Section 31 operatives, and since then, that’s been the last we’ve seen of him from the fans’ perspective.

Ever since it was revealed that Lower Decks is coming to an end, fans have been pondering whether William Boimler will receive a fitting conclusion and if Bradward will discover his clone is still alive. On Reddit, there’s been a flurry of speculation regarding potential ways for William Boimler to reappear.
