I have lived a life of adventure and struggle, a life that has taken me far beyond the realms of my humble beginnings. As a Traveler, I have faced insurmountable odds time and again, but it is my unwavering faith in humanity that fuels my spirit and guides my actions. I have witnessed firsthand the vast gulf between our simple, heartfelt ways and the cold, calculated logic of the Celestials.
At a recent reveal, Archetype Entertainment shared fresh concept artwork and a brief narrative for their upcoming sci-fi role-playing game named Exodus.
In this latest short story, we explore the significant risks and unique trials that The Travelers encounter on their valiant space voyages. This is the sixth instalment in the prologue, designed to provide players with a compelling background to the game’s current situation.
At The Game Awards 2023, I was thrilled to learn about Exodus for the first time. In this game, I’ll be part of a group of people who were compelled to leave Earth behind. As we journey through the cosmos, we discover that humanity has found a new residence in a hostile galaxy. Here, we are the underdogs, and it’s up to us to band together and fight tooth and nail to survive against all odds.
At present, the game, named Exodus, hasn’t been launched yet. However, once it’s released, you’ll be able to play it on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and personal computers.

Exodus: The Travelers–Humanity’s Eternal Warriors
Listening to the forceful slam of the steel door behind you on your spaceship, feeling the profound quietness steal over your chest as you leave, and with each star that glows in the distance, a gentle reminder of the relentless passage of time waiting for you back home. Becoming an interstellar voyager is no simple accomplishment. There isn’t any formal preparation to help you adapt to the solitary and enveloping existence that awaits you. Overcoming the mental battle between recognized hazards on your home planet versus unforeseen perils of your assignment is the initial hurdle you must overcome. Everything else is just additional challenges compared to what we faced on Earth.
In simple terms, no past experiences can fully equip you for the dangers that lie ahead. Yet, you’re aware of this. That’s why you chose the path of a Traveler. The prospect of losing all we have, including our lives, doesn’t scare us enough to abandon our mission – safeguarding the existence of our species.
I have lived through times of unimaginable adversity, and yet, I remain steadfast in my belief that we, as humans, possess an indomitable spirit that defines us. This spirit is not just a vague concept, but rather, it’s deeply ingrained within our DNA. It’s the belief that no matter what challenges we face, we will survive and triumph.
I’ve pondered over the seemingly insurmountable odds we faced during our Exodus journey, a miracle that defies logic and reason. On the surface, we were a motley crew of people, ill-equipped to battle the mighty forces before us. Our physical strength was minimal, and our technology was non-existent compared to those who pursued us relentlessly.
Travelers face a unique challenge: we encounter an adversary whose intelligence far surpasses our own. The Celestials, who were once our equals 40,000 years ago, have since evolved into highly advanced beings with superior technology, inventiveness, and immense power. To the Celestials, we are mere relics of a past they’ve abandoned; insignificant and even dangerous to their ongoing existence and supremacy. They view us as an unwanted infestation that they must eliminate. In contrast, we see the Celestials as a cautionary tale of what happens when one sacrifices humanity for technological progression. We strive to tip the scales in our favor, aiming to build a new civilization marked by wisdom, compassion, and interconnectedness.
Originating from various planets, every Traveler adheres to The First Principles: ” Assume nothing, always question.” This creed is essential for preserving our mental stability in a cosmos where numerous human beliefs are put to the test and deemed obsolete. With our journeys taking us far apart and scattering us among the stars, opportunities to interact with fellow Travelers are scarce. However, we remain bonded – bound by our trust in humanity’s strength. We know they are alongside us, battling alongside us.
Our common bond is that we can never escape the real enemy – time dilation. While we spend mere weeks on a mission, years slip away at home. Time stretches and warps, reshaping our homeworld and forcing unforeseen changes on loved ones left behind. Ties to our homes grow tenuous, our relationships are tested, and the heartache of separation from all that we hold dear is a constant companion on every mission. In the endless stretch of space, the silence is deafening, giving our nightmares free rein. Most heart-wrenching of all is when we return to find our homeworld pillaged or destroyed. The horrors that strike in our absence dull whatever successes we achieve, be they hard-won relics, tech, or insights. Though outwardly we appear unchanged, our souls carry indelible scars.
A Traveler’s life is an brave and inspiring journey of endurance and self-discovery, driven by determination and tenacity (a quality seemingly lacking in our technologically advanced descendants). It’s no longer about facing the unknown but rather the courage that arises from a fearless heart and unyielding spirit. We are humanity’s eternal adventurers, traveling through time and space to encounter the unexpected and seize the unthinkable. We are the explorers, treasure hunters, archaeologists, scientists, and engineers… trailblazers who constantly challenge boundaries and overcome adversity to build a brighter tomorrow. We are also parents, children, friends, and lovers. We have always persevered, overcoming every obstacle. That is our legacy… the same tradition that has carried us from Earth, where we survived extinction. We did not come this far just to give up.
As a fan, I can tell you that each Exodus mission feels like jumping into the unknown abyss for me. The only thing certain is that the days passing for us are equivalent to decades back home due to time dilation. It’s both a blessing and a curse – every minute lost with our loved ones, every tear shed upon returning, etches a part of our story and reminds us of our humanity. Every decision we make is in the name of ending the sacrifices we make for the sake of time. We are the brave soldiers on the frontline, fighting humanity’s last battle: survival versus extinction. We are the beacon of hope for mankind.
