Exploit Reveals RICOCHET Anti-Cheat has Falsely Banned Thousands of Players

As a long-time Call of Duty player and victim of unjust bans myself, this latest RICOCHET anti-cheat fiasco has left me feeling like I’m playing a game of whack-a-mole with Activision. The fact that innocent gamers like popular streamer BobbyPoff have been targeted due to an exploit as absurd as “Trigger Bot” is nothing short of mind-boggling.

An exploit for the popular game Call of Duty has emerged on the internet, exposing that the RICOCHET anti-cheating system mistakenly banned over thousands of players.

The user @zebleerpo, previously known as X on Twitter, disclosed how the RICOCHET anti-cheat system was being misused to get others banned. In essence, if users receive the phrase “Trigger Bot” in messages or see it as part of an online ID during a Friend Request, RICOCHET will be activated and innocent players could be penalized.

It seems Activision became aware of an exploit prior to its sharing on platform X, and they declared that they had returned all affected accounts to a limited number of genuine players’ profiles. The exact number of impacted accounts remains uncertain at this time.

One such account was that of popular streamer BobbyPoff, who has now been unbanned and has been a punching bag of accusations and abuse for the past several weeks.

A concern the original poster has expressed is that some genuine rule-breakers may still be reinstated if the method of unbanning players in RICOCHET isn’t careful enough. They mentioned, “Cheaters who were identified by these signatures will be let back in.

Later today, RICOCHET will post an updated progress report about their anti-cheat system’s journey towards launch on their blog. We’ll share more details here as soon as it’s available.
